Diamond Jim asked me to stand in for the Wednesday night music trivia contest, known as Midnight Special, while he was on vacation. It seems he’s back from vacation. I’m going to forge ahead with my trivia question, though, because I worked so hard on it.
Equally impressive, I did it without the help of Raquel. As a special treat, I am offering it far earlier than midnight — unless you live in, like, Guadalcanal. But I may have that backwards. I think it’s midnight in Paris. (Moneybags would know.)
If you do live in Guadalcanal, how’s it going there?
If you don’t, answer this question before Les gets to it:
[Reads from trivia card]:
“The ‘Beatles.’ The Beatles were a legendary rock group, but does anyone remember the names of the four artists who belonged to that band?”
No, it’s not a trick question. I suspect that four out of four college kids today would muff the answer.
So sad.
And they wouldn’t know what Guadalcanal signified two decades earlier, either.

So I don’t have to post anything?
Shoot.
Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison.
That’s 5, not 4.
I’m pretty sure Apu wss the 5th Beatle
To be fair to the college kids today, I can’t name the members of 99.9% of the bands I listen to. The last band that I could name all the members of was probably Nirvana.
A real man’s trivia will be presented tonight.
We had some people over for dinner years ago, and I mentioned that it was the 20th anniversary of John Lennon’s death. One of the guests asked, “Who’s John Lennon?” I answered, “He was in Paul McCartney’s first band.”
Ringo Starr, George Harrison, John Lennon, and Billy Shears.
Little known fact: two 20th century popes were both named after 2 of the Beatles.
Pete Best, Ron Wood, Nigel Tufnel, and Blind Lemon Pye.
