NY Post | 10-23-21 | Paula Froelich

Just in time for Halloween and in what is perhaps the most bizarre collar of their lives, police in Guelph, Canada, have arrested a machete-wielding, bike-riding clown.

I could have pasted the rest of the article for context, but nah. It works, just the way it is.

So, if you’re a jerrycan of a president you can just string together any words you like, whether or not they make sense? No wonder the live feed of this meeting was cancelled at the last minute. We only have reporters’ notes to go on.

Biden Makes Off-The-Cuff Comment to Pope Francis About Baseball
    Conservative Brief | 10/29/21 | Jonathan Davis

Joe Biden appeared to convey what looked to some observers as an awkward story regarding a black Major League Baseball player when he met Pope Francis at the Vatican on Thursday.

News of the story comes as reports noted that the Vatican canceled a live television broadcast of the meeting between the second Catholic president and the pontiff.

“You’re the famous African-American baseball player in America,” Biden says as he leans in to speak to Francis after giving him a presidential challenge coin.

Biden was talking about Satchel Paige, a trailblazing black MLB pitcher who he said could not get into the league until his mid-40s because of his skin color, before making a remark about both their ages.

“How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you were? You’re 65. I’m 60,” said the president, noting that Francis is the “most significant warrior for peace I’ve ever met.”

“I know my son would want me to give this to you,” Biden continued, referring to his late son Beau Biden.

“The tradition is, and I’m only kidding about this, but next time I see you, if you don’t have it, you have to buy the drinks,” Biden said, in reference to the coin, depicting Biden’s home state of Delaware as well as a reference to his late son Beau’s military unit, the 261st Theater Tactical Signal Brigade. He added: “I’m the only Irishman you’ve ever met who’s never had a drink.”

Biden tours Rome with 85-car motorcade ahead of ‘climate’ summit
    NY Post | 10/29/2021 | Steve Nelson

President Biden on Friday cruised through Rome with an 85-vehicle motorcade — drawing criticism for the poor optics ahead of a global warming summit in Glasgow, Scotland, to which Biden is bringing about a dozen top US officials.

“Biden arriving at the Vatican. His motorcade is lonnnnnng,” tweeted Washington Post reporter Chico Harlan, along with a video of the procession.

“#Decarbonize this,” one person captioned the video.

“America’s Marie Antoinette class is Washington’s elites – and that shows it,” another person responded.

Biden routinely says there’s a “climate crisis” caused by fossil fuels. It’s unclear how many of the motorcade vehicles are electric plug-ins or hybrids, but they appeared to be standard gas-guzzling limos, SUVs and vans.

British Theatre Adds Trigger Warning to Shakespeare’s Macbeth
    Breitbart | 29 Oct 2021 | Victoria Friedman

A London theatre has added a ‘trigger warning’ to its production of William Shakespeare’s 415-year-old play Macbeth.

The Almeida Theatre in London includes this “content warning”: “This production includes extreme scenes of violence, including violence against children, suicide, and the use of blood, firearms and knives. It also contains flashing lights, vaping and the smoking of real cigarettes.

It further directed viewers to the Samaritans suicide charity “if you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this production” of the over-400-year-old play, which as The Times noted, is considered suitable for children and often taught in school to eight-year-olds.

Sited on the grounds of Shakespeare’s original theatre, the Globe in London issued a trigger warning for its summer performance of Romeo and Juliet, warning audiences that it contained drug use, fake blood, and perhaps the most well-known themes of the famous play, suicide. The Globe Theatre also directed viewers to the Samaritans and another mental health charity.

“This production contains depictions of suicide, moments of violence and references to drug use. It contains gunshot sound effects and the use of stage blood. If you have been affected by any of the issues raised in this production, please find details below of organisations offering advice and support,” the warning had said at the time.

It is not the first time that the Bard has been subject to trigger warnings, with students from the prestigious Cambridge University being given such content alerts before a 2017 lecture on Titus Andronicus and The Comedy of Errors because they contained themes on violence and sexual violence. Some academics had remarked that if English literature students are not aware what the plays are about, then perhaps they should not be studying at one of the top universities in the world.
