HAARP to bounce signal off asteroid in NASA experiment [Dec. 27]

An experiment to bounce a radio signal off an asteroid on Dec. 27 will serve as a test for probing a larger asteroid that in 2029 will pass closer to Earth than the many geostationary satellites that orbit our planet.

NASA says an automobile-sized asteroid hits Earth’s atmosphere about once a year, creating a fireball and burning up before reaching the surface.

About every 2,000 years a meteoroid the size of a football field hits Earth. Those can cause a lot of damage. And as for wiping out civilization, NASA says an object large enough to do that strikes the planet once every few million years.

NASA first successfully redirected an asteroid on Sept. 26, when its Double Asteroid Redirection Test mission, or DART, collided with Dimorphos. That asteroid is an orbiting moonlet of the larger Didymos asteroid.

The DART collision altered the moonlet’s orbit time by 32 minutes.

Short flights won’t take off across France anymore, so long as there’s an efficient train line that can connect commuters from point A to point B. In an aggressive effort to lower the country’s emissions, France has banned flight routes for locations where connecting train service would only take 2.5 hours or less.

France has received the green light from the European Commission to start cracking down on ultra-polluting short-haul flights within the country, starting with a ban on three popular flights from Paris-Orly Airport.

PITTSBURGH — Target 11 has confirmed that work crews providing assistance to people being asked to leave a homeless encampment on the North Side last week didn’t realize that a homeless woman was still in a tent when they began the operation.

According to multiple sources, a front loader operator began scooping up the tents they suspected were already empty and tossing them into dump trucks to haul away.

… According to sources, the homeless woman began screaming and poked her head out of the tent. She then fell to the ground.

Of course, let’s put government employees in charge of your health care, too.
