The two most impressive pieces of gold I’ve ever seen with my own eyes were the mask of Tutankhamen, which I saw when I visited Cairo several years ago, and the large golden nugget at The Golden Nugget casino in Las Vegas, which I saw when I was on my first trip to Las Vegas.
What brought this up? Well, I saw a video on one of those things recently. Two, if you count the Steve Martin routine. This isn’t the Steve Martin routine.

A study concluded eight years ago showed a rather stark improvement in dementia risk 10 years out from what they say is a relatively safe and available treatment for HSV1; a new analysis claims the other side, that the original study shows HSV1 causes some of those dementia cases. With the billions wasted on every variety of miracle cures which lack any basis in science, and the pseudo-science health-cults that pop up at the flimsiest of evidence, I find it odd that the original study didn’t spawn a persistent clamor to just treat everybody of a certain age out of mere hope of a good effect. I’m not saying we should do this, just that I’m surprised such a claim didn’t cause this to happen. Far worse ideas have spawned from far weaker evidence.
