Midnight Special

Good evening all and sundry. Tonight we are getting our Hush Puppies on, firing up the blender and cooking up that American creation on which we feed. Yes indeed. Tonight’s highlight entertainer is the one and only…

Jimmy Buffett

So with the booze in the blender ready to render that frozen concoction that helps us hang on let us find that lost shaker of salt and get this party started.

  1. “One Particular Harbour” —

There’s a verse in there where he sounds a bit like John Denver, and I had an epiphany:
Both of those artists write the same kind of poetry, which depends on nice turns of phrase.
Both sing (somewhat) similarly, but have a different “vibe.”
Denver didn’t connote drinking and partying; Buffett does.

  2. I liked Buffet when I was much younger. Saw him at The Auditorium in Chicago in ’77 and he put on a good show. Great venue BTW. His early records are good, particularly “A1A”, but by the time his big hit, “Cheeseburger…”, came out I’d had enough.
