“Could It Maybe Be a Spending Problem?”
Egg-zackatally. I haven’t paid the least attention to the Potemkin tax-“reform” debate, because I never heard anything about them cutting any programs or lowering expenditures. So tax “reform” has to be the usual head-fake, smoke-and-mirrors charade designed to lull the rubes.
The main problem is that Republicans have bought into the nonsense that tax cuts have to be “Paid for”. Huh?? You have to pay to keep your own money now?
To be able to pass it with “reconciliation” requires certain rules. Unfortunately being revenue neutral is one of them which requires they be paid for . This is all part of the “if you give us the house” we can do something “if you give us the senate” we can do something “if you give us the presidency” we can do something. now it will be “if you give us filibuster proof majority in the senate” These senators are mostly worthless
I got an idea. We should institute a new tax. Call it “You want it, you pay for it” tax. At the end of the fiscal year determine what our deficit was for that year. Calculate how much each tax payer needs to pay equally to match that figure. Send an additional “tax bill” to all taxpayers to, “Pay for what you wanted”. I wonder how fast things would change after that.

Tax reform means making people feel good that someone else is getting screwed worse in a new way.
