Let’s Pretend That We Think It Was a Shot At Trig Palin and Act Like We’re Super-Offended

Having watched the video of Obama’s “Special Olympics” comment

I’ll say this:

He was making fun of himself, and since his ineptitude at bowling is legendary, I’d say he was perfectly justified in making the remark. It was a choice bit of hyperbole.

Was it funny? Not especially, but not every joke’s a winner. Some are there just to keep the mood jovial & light-hearted. I think this did that.

The IMPORTANT question is: did the audience think it was funny?

No – because no one heard him say it.

The audience was too busy laughing at Leno saying “No, that’s very good. Yes. That’s very good, Mr. President.” and making an exaggerated ‘I’m trying not to laugh out loud’ gesture of covering his mouth with his hand.

In my semi-professional opinion as a self-described humorist, I’m giving Obama a pass on this one.

The question is, will his perpetually-offended grievence-constituency base do the same?

Shockingly, 21% of HuffPo’s Kool-Aid-drinking, Obamessiah-worshiping readership say “no”.

While I’ll always consider these people idiots, at least on this one occasion, I won’t be calling them hypocrites.

  1. Live by the trumped-up, imagined slight – die by the trumped-up, imagined slight. You can bet Obama and his supporters would howl if a Republican had said this.

No one says, or believes, that Obama hates physically or mentally challenged people. They are just saying that it is a stupid and thoughtless comment and they are right. And coming from a person who’s primary qualifications for the presidency was his supposed intellect and compassion it is a fair cop.

  2. Yer darn tootin’ DamnCat, Mr. tell-me-promter can’t open his pie hole without coming off as arrogant, disingenuous or just a blithering fool. Jeez, maybe that’s their plan, turning us into 2000-2008 democrats, unable to have any respect for our elected and appointed leaders. If true, that BHO really knows how to pull off the buffoon part really well.

  3. And this is why a SITTING PRESIDENT shouldn’t do things like go on Leno. (although I think the joke was just a stupid remark and not a dig)

So I guess now we now he’s not actually running things. He’s on the west coast doing late night, going to dinners. Admitidly, he’s bowling and playing basketball. He’s spending time making picks for March Madness.

How about doing your job, Mr President?

  4. So the Zero has time to go on the Tonight Show, jetset around Cah-li-fornia, throw parties every Wednesday night at the White House (serving hundred dollar per serving steaks), AND make crass jokes about disabled kids, but no time to fill his still incomplete Cabinet posts or to properly receive and entertain the Prime Minister of arguably our closest ally? (Although, he does have time to tell Iran that we won’t interfere with them getting The Bomb and using it on Israel…dumb shmuck)

  5. Ballistic Jello – If Obama’s job were to be a leader of a republic of free men, I’d say he’s doing a terrible job for the reasons you listed.

However, his ACTUAL job is to make sure that more than half of America’s voters like him 4 years from now. Statesman-like dignity does not accomplish this. Being seen hanging out with Hollywood celebrities does.

Being seen on the Tonight Show laughing and having a good time with Jay enhances his image of likability, and being likable is what he gets paid to do.

What I wouldn’t give to have that Inglourious Basterd Bush back again.

  6. You speak the truth Harvey.

Some of my co-workers (read Comrades in Zero-Speak) were just telling me today how stupid our last President was…and he was a bit of a buffoon at times…I responded that they should wait 6 months to a year, then come back and tell me how stupid you think GW was…I think President Hopenchange may just give them some perspective…

And if we could ask for a President to be back in the White House…I would wish for Reagan…Even a zombie Reagan would be better than this guy…

  7. Pandering, boorish, narcissistic idiot.

Doesn’t anyone else look around the room to see if there are any jooos, blacks, Indians (dot or feather), Mexicans, Polacks, blondes or retards around before telling a joke anymore? The One is supposed to be a rival to the Great Communicator, at least according to Huffington, et al. You’d think that he’d learn from his veep’s mistakes and shut his f***ing mouth.

Do his advisors have to tell him before every event from now on: “Now, remember, stick to the script, sir. Remember the Special Olympics reference?” Oh, how I wish that would have been cut from the broadcast, covered up, and eventually released. SWEET!

When Obama tries to get his foot out of his mouth, I hope he fails.

…hey, maybe “hope” works, after all!

  9. Damn Cat is absolutely right: if Bush had uttered a remark like that at any time in the last eight years, the whine from the left would reach fever pitch. People would be calling him biased against the disabled & racist (Obama’s not the only black retard, you know). Had that happened it would not have surprised me if the leftidiots found “scientific data” that attributed the rise in Autism to the Iraqi war or Dick Cheney.

  10. Let’s review: At the urging of a secret service agent, Dan Quayle accidentally spells potato incorrectly, adding the “e” which is present in the plural, but he’s an idiot. This despite the potato “incident” being his only misstep in office.

Every time this a-hole opens his elitist, ignorant mouth without the aid of a teleprompter he says something ridiculously stupid and offensive, yet he’s supposedly “brilliant” and “elegant”? … and that’s not even getting into his VP, Pelosi, Reid, Geithner, Dodd, Frank, and the other morons.

    Ummm…okay.

  11. So, this Shriver guy is now agitating for a special olympics retard to get a job at the White House?!

Considering Obama, Biden, and the cabinet appointees, isn’t that already enough retarded affirmative action?
