A friend of mine passed this my way. I hadn’t seen it before. Now, it may be my age showing, but I remember when “The Candyman” was a new song.
Enjoy…

Oompa Loompa Doopity Dope,
That’s that working for ya – the Change and the Hope?
Oompa Loompa Doopity Den,
I Hope for a Change in Two Thousand and Ten!
Well, the song’s still lame but the lyrics are better this time.
Pretty good. I suspect the dance style is fruity on purpose.
Unfortunately, with parody you are often limited by the amount of intelligence that can be crammed in the original song’s structure, which in this case is pretty limited. It’s just meant to be catchy, so trying to shove depth into it is like trying to dump a bucket into a teaspoon. Weird Al did “Like a Surgeon” because Madonna suggested it herself, but you see toward the end of the song how it’s falling apart because it just can’t go anywhere. I doubt he would have recorded it if he weren’t grateful to Madonna for making so much crappy pop music for him to work with over the decades.
After the video, in the related clips, is him on stage singing, “These are the things you don’t say to your wife” – priceless.
You magnificent Basil! Add a few unicorns, a couple of oompalumpas, and Gene Wilder and its right on the mark…
