Last Friday, a 71 year old Florida man stopped an armed robbery by shooting the armed robbers:

Piers Morgan tweeted nothing.
Today, Piers Morgan tweeted on the Colorado tragedy:
Lunatics like this will always try and get guns. It should be 100,000 times harder than it is for them to do so. That’s my point. #Colorado
My point, Piers, is that it should be 100,000 times easier for non-lunatics to get guns so they can protect themselves from lunatics.
if it were 100,000 times harder to get a gun, only lunatics would try 100,000 harder to get a gun.
Can we get a million? I like the word “million”. A million points of light, like muzzle flashes. That’s a lot of dead lunatics.
This is politically incorrect, and probably horribly insensitive at a time like this, but since Mayor Doomberg brought up the “need” for stricter gun laws, I wonder if we could start a pool on the amount of time between the moment when he actually gets his stricter laws and the moment when he starts begging gangs to stop shooting people on the streets.
Too bad he wasn’t at Aurora, Colorado last night.
Is “long walk off a short Piers” suggesting that there should be some way of making sure a person is mentally stable before they are allowed to buy a gun ? I’d like to see THAT get by the A.C.L.U. (Anti Consitutional Lawyers United) aka (Any Liberal Cause Upheld) !!!
(My prayers go out the families affected by this heinous, cowardly act but it has to be said, thanks to Piers and company).
One seventy year old man, shoots 2 robbers and saves 10 or so people. Florida Concealed Carry
One 24 year old nut case who thinks he’s the Joker shoots 71 people killing 14. Colorado Gun Control
I know where I’d rather live. 2+2=4 in this reality, in the world of liberal progressives 2+2=57 states.
seanmahair – Actually, Colorado is a “shall issue” concealed carry state, and requirements for a permit are not particularly onerous:
http://www.usacarry.com/colorado_concealed_carry_permit_information.html
A little Googling suggests (although not conclusively), that the theater exercised their private property right to forbid guns in their building.
In retrospect, possibly a poor choice. And certainly ineffective as regards the shooter.
Obviously, as of yet, there’s no reportage of whether there were any permit-holders in the theater who chose not to carry out of respect for the theater owner’s wishes.
A caller to the Howie Carr show just brought this little gem back from the past.
Some years back, there was a huge rash of carjackings in Florida targeted only at tourists. Criminals were able to identify the tourists because Florida rental cars had, at that time, special license plates. Ted Koppel interviewed one of the top Florida law enforcement officials, and ever the reporter, Ted asked, “Why do you think they’re only targeting tourists?” The law enforcement official replied, “Simple. Florida allows firearms to be carried concealed. The criminals know there’s no chance that any tourists are armed.” Replied Koppel, “Bu…wha…”
Florida soon began issuing normal license plates for rental cars, and the problem went away. Thus were tourists protected by the firearms carried by Floridians.
Burma,
That is an awesome story. It is sort of like herd immunity in the medical/immunology field. Some parents will always elect to not immunize their child against mumps or measles, etc. The fact that some small percentage does this does not cause a problem and it is likely those children will never be affected by these diseases because so many are protected that the infection pathways break down before reaching a non-immunized kid. Likewise, the tourists in Florida are protected by the other Floridians that may be carrying guns. If the bacteria/virus (or thug) doesn’t know where to go to find a safe host, they may just stay home and play PS3 because its safer.
Since there is zero doubt that this guy is guilty and for some reason the cops didn’t shoot him as he tried to escape, as they should be required to do in all cases like this, how long will it take for his “trial”? How many scum sucking lawyers will make millions trying to claim him being “insane” is a reason not to kill him. It’s the best reason of all if this is a “symptom” of his “illness”.
In the case of the Aurora nutjob, as details are being released, the perp was clad in SWAT-grade gear from head to legs and wielding a shotgun, assault rifle, and one-or two .40 Glocks. Only Gunny Hathcock (he of One Shot-One Kill) or one of his ardent disciples, could’ve gotten off a shot-to his face-if he was lucky.
As it is, that fellow will most likely get off on an insanity plea, do some time in a giggle factory, and, if he’s not taken out by a considerate attendant or a fellow crazy while institutionalized, may well see daylight again before he’s retirement age.
In the case of the ol’ gent taking down the robbers, most likely those perps weren’t sporting ballistic helmets and copious Kevlar.
Bunker – True, from what I’ve heard, he was so well-armed & well armored (plus big element of surprise and the tear gas grenade), even a roomful of concealed carriers might not have put him down.
Maybe it’s time that we, as a country, worry more about restricting the sale of ballistic vests, kevlar helmets, bullet proof leggings -as well as official police uniforms, badges- etc. and less about the sale of guns. Certain military and police items just should not be sold to the “general public”. No sportsman or recreational shooter outfits themselves from head to toe in SWAT gear. THAT is what should be the focus of the debate which this tragedy, no doubt, will begin anew.
*God bless all the victims and may He comfort their families.*
I had a follow-on thought which I’m sure will warm your minds: With the Aurora tragedy fresh in the minds of the people, and congress not rushing to pass a great wave of gun control laws, feature Obama taking to the airwaves to announce that since congress won’t act, HE,/i> will. Having just issued an Executive Order mandating that private citizens surrender their firearms. He’ll give it a noble-sounding name-The American Safety Act- and state that the people have a month to willingly turn over all weapons to their local police precinct, state police barracks, or NG headquarters. After that month, the ATF and other agencies of law enforcement will begin searching private homes.
All done for the sake of a greater sense of security for the people. Obama will , with the usual imperiousness, lecture us proles on how it is best to only have the first responders in possession of firearms since they possess greater skill and training.
The media will twist themselves in knots praising his “boldness in action”…his base will cheer and champion him.
Remember, never let a crisis go to waste.
A foreigner commenting on American gun laws…and I care because…?
This is one reason why I hate liberals. they are suck disgusting animals…they want to be treated with respect and know that even though they are scum most conservatives will treat them that way.
They of course having been raised without manners of even the concept of manners do not have to treat other human beings that way.
It is all part of the liberal zombie agenda.
They are the most vile of humanity. Totally without souls, putrid, evil twisted morons. There simply aren’t enough adjectives to describe slime like this. There is something seriously wrong with them. And as for the the Colorado theater tragedy, Liberals never let a good tragedy or crisis go to waste!
My heart goes out to all the victims of this horrible, senseless tragedy.
That being said, I can hardly wait to see how long it takes these Progressive bloggers, talk-show hosts like Piers Morgan, George Stephanopoulos, or some other POS liberal talking head on CNN or PMSNBC to try to blame this on the TEA party, , or some other Conservative group.
Nothing Wrong Obama With Politicizing A Tragedy.. But then again, they’d use anything to change the topic from “you didn’t do it Yourself” speech!
ABC blamed the Tea Party within hours:
http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Journalism/2012/07/20/It-Begins-ABC-Ross-Stephanolpoulos-Point-to-Tea-Party-for-Dark-Knight-Shooting
Yup, ABC Chief Investigative reporter Brian Ross found another James Holmes in Colorado on Facebook just a couple of hours later. Other outlets followed. This James Holmes is a member of a Tea Party. In the rush to blame the Tea Party, Chief Investigative Ross missed a few clues that should have been clear as day to a one eyed bat:
* There is a massive age disparity between Facebook Holmes and the shooter.
* Facebook Holmes was planning a party, not your typical preparation for- or rant prior to- a mass murder.
* Facebook is a less reliable source of information than Wikipedia.
* James Holmes is a common name. There are almost 30 James Holmes in Colorado.
* A horrible smear would result if Chief Investigator Ross were wrong. This indeed occur. Facebook Holmes has had to change his phone number.
* The press had wrongly blamed the Tea Party for the Census worker killing, the Giffords shooting, the Times Square bomber, and the IRS attack.
* The press urged, nay, they **URGED RESTRAINT** for weeks after Nidal Hanson, shouting “Alahu Akbar,” killed 13 and wounded 29 at Fort Hood.
* The press is still **URGING RESTRAINT** that we not rush to judgment about Nidal Hanson. Still **URGING RESTRAINT** almost 2 years after the shooting. Just checked, **STILL URGING RESTRAINT**.
I could go on as folks here know I am wont to do. By way of explanation, remember that if you knew journalist majors in college, you’ll recall that they were the dimmest bulbs in a bag of hammers. These mental giants — incapable of any other college major — are not only incompetent, but they also now possess a drive — nearly sexual in intensity and irrationality — to discredit the Tea Party.
From what I can recall, the time between tragedy and blaming the Tea Party has declined from the Texas attack, the Giffords shooting and now the theater shooting. You could call that learning of a sort.
I heard the nutjob shooter attended a Occupy Denver rally.
It might not be true, but that’s no reason why we shouldn’t repeat it a thousand times.
