As we head into the last days before Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns, let’s take some time and think about the older series. There were 199 episodes, counting the KTMA season and the movie, but not the pilot/promo. But, for our purposes, we’ll not count the pilot/promo nor the KTMA season, okay?
So, here’s today’s question: What was your least favorite episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000?
For me, it’s either The Robot vs the Aztec Mummy or The Mad Monster. I think it’s the pacing of those early episodes that kinda make them least favorites.
“Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” — not because there’s anything wrong with the humor of Joel and the bots, but because the movie is so horribly, offensively bad. Usually I’m amused at the filmmakers’ incompetence; not in this case. They flaunt their incompetence in an almost Obamaesque way, and I actually hate them for making something so terrible.

Angels’ Revenge
I know the point of the show is to make fun of bad movies, but my loathing for the feature film is so intense nothing could be said to be entertained. I just couldn’t stomach it and had to stop watching.

Red Zone Cuba. Even the riffing couldn’t save that one.
Merlin’s Shop of Mystical Wonders was unwatchable even with the snark. The Girl in Gold Boots was also pretty hard to sit through, although
voyeursviewers who identify as male might disagree.The Incredible Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed-Up Zombies is my least favorite episode.
I have fond memories of “Robot vs. the Aztec Mummy” because it was my first MST3K episode. We had promised our kids a fun weekend, but both husband and I came down with bad colds. Finding the show (running a marathon that weekend) allowed us to sit on the couch and laugh through our coughing while the kids were entertained. (You’re letting us watch horror movies! Yeah!)
Fondness does not improve this movie–it’s still horribly, terribly bad.
I’ve only seen it once, years ago, but Robot vs. Aztec Mummy probably gets my vote as well.
