MST3K Question of the Day: Favorite Song

As Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns, let’s take some time and think about the older series. There were 199 episodes, counting the KTMA season and the movie, but not the pilot/promo. But, for our purposes, we’ll not count the pilot/promo nor the KTMA season, okay?

So, here’s today’s question: Which song performed by the MST3K crew is your favorite?

For me, there are too many to list. I’ve always enjoyed “Tubular Boobular Joy,” “Hired! The Musical,” and “Where, O Werewolf.” But, it’s probably gotta be “Loving Lovers Love.” But what’s your favorite?

MST3K Question of the Day: Favorite Short

As we head into the last days before Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns, let’s take some time and think about the older series. There were 199 episodes, counting the KTMA season and the movie, but not the pilot/promo. But, for our purposes, we’ll not count the pilot/promo nor the KTMA season, okay?

So, here’s today’s question: Which short that MST3K riffed is your favorite?

For me, it could be Hired (either or both parts), A Case of Spring Fever, or The Home Economics Story. I’m leaning toward the latter for these 13 seconds alone:

MST3K Question of the Day: Favorite Unriffed Movie

As we head into the last days before Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns, let’s take some time and think about the older series. There were 199 episodes, counting the KTMA season and the movie, but not the pilot/promo. But, for our purposes, we’ll not count the pilot/promo nor the KTMA season, okay?

Yeah, we know they only showed bad movies, but some of the movies maybe you actually enjoyed the movie on its own. So, here’s today’s question: Which movie that MST3K riffed was your favorite? Not the riffed version, but the original, uncut, unriffed movie.

I have to limit my answer to unriffed movies I’ve seen in full. As of this writing, that’s 74 of them. And, it would be one these: Marooned (shown as Space Travelers), Bride of the Monster, or The Amazing Colossal Man, all for different reasons. Marooned was actually a good movie with some slow spots. The Amazing Colossal Man was one I enjoyed as a child. Bride of the Monster is a guilty pleasure.

But what about you? What’s your favorite unriffed movie?

MST3K Question of the Day: Least Favorite Episode

As we head into the last days before Mystery Science Theater 3000 returns, let’s take some time and think about the older series. There were 199 episodes, counting the KTMA season and the movie, but not the pilot/promo. But, for our purposes, we’ll not count the pilot/promo nor the KTMA season, okay?

So, here’s today’s question: What was your least favorite episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000?

For me, it’s either The Robot vs the Aztec Mummy or The Mad Monster. I think it’s the pacing of those early episodes that kinda make them least favorites.

So, here’s today’s question: What was your favorite episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000?

Mine may be The Final Sacrifice. There are lots I just flat out enjoy, but this one is just, oh, I don’t know, it’s a favorite of mine. What’s your favorite?

Gettin’ ready for the new MST3K

You knew it was coming back on the 14th, right?

[The YouTube]

Yep, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is back — or will be back, really soon. Like a week and a half. Not even that long. On the 14th. So, yeah, soon.

Are you ready? I’m not. But I’m getting ready.

First, I need to subscribe to Netflix. I don’t ever watch Netflix, what with Hulu and iTunes and Amazon and TiVo and everything. I had Netflix, but never watched it, so I stopped paying for it. Plus they ticked me off about something, but I don’t remember just what. Anyway, I’ll need to subscribe to Netflix, since that’s where you can watch it.

Also, I thought about watching the old episodes again, but I watch the occasional episode every week anyway, so I’m not doing that. I actually did that before, back in 2011 & 2012. I started at the beginning, with the KTMA episodes. You can’t buy them, but you can find them if you look hard enough. Honestly, unless you have those on a bucket list, it’s like a pre-season football game. It doesn’t really satisfy, but you can see them training and growing and working the kinks out. Some of the host segment are really good, so good they were redone for the national series. If you want to read my reviews of the KTMA episodes, start here.

If you want to start with the official Season One, start here. I watched them in the original airdate order, which is slightly different than most episode lists you see. It only makes a difference in a couple of places but the first season has one of those places.

If you want to just look at the overall review of all the episodes, videos, and what-not, try this link. Use the sidebar to go to particular ones you want. Or, just watch them in order (if you own them or can find them) and see if you think about them like I do.

Anyway, what I’ve been doing that’s MST3K related is finding the original uncut, unedited, un-MSTied versions of the movies and shorts that aired and watching them. Why? I dunno. Maybe to see what the MST3K crew had to go through. Maybe just to say I did. That last one seems more likely, knowing me like I do.

But what about you? What are you doing to get ready for the relaunch of MST3K?

MST3K Question of the Day: Updating the Classic

mst3kPitchWe all know that Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be returning soon. And, if you’re like me, you’d just be happy with more of the same. That is, a guy in space being shown bad movies and him watching them with his two robot friends while making fun of the movie.

Simple. Well, sort of. Except for all of the shooting the janitor into space and him building robots and … okay, it’s not simple. But, it’s just a show, you should really just relax.

Remembering, though, that the show was canceled back in the day — twice, in fact — we want the show to stick around for a while. As long as it’s funny, at least.

But, you know kids these days. Things can’t be like they used to be. We have to update things to get the kids’ attention. And, TV is no different.

Which brings us to our MST3K Question of the Day: What changes to MST3K are needed to make it appealing to today’s TV viewer?

MST3K Question of the Day: The Movies

mst3kLoboBy now, you’re not only excited about the MST3K reboot, you’re actually sick of hearing about it. Well, think about what poor Joel and Mike had to go through. Now, you don’t feel so bad, do you?

And now that I’ve cleverly maneuvered you into being in a good mood, let’s put that to some good use.

We know there will be some changes in the reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000, but some things will remain pretty much the same. For example, there will have to be a bad movie to riff. Or, like they did from time to time, a TV show presented as a movie.

Which brings us to our MST3K Question of the Day: What should be the first movie/TV show riffed on the new MST3K?

You’re smart enough, you’re good enough, and doggone it, people like your answers. Share with us, won’t you?

MST3K Question of the Day: The Villains

mst3kVillainsWith the reboot of MST3K coming soon, we are all so excited that we don’t know what to do. Well, I’m excited. You should be too. But, it’s okay if you’re not. I’m excited enough for all of us.

Anyway, there will be some changes in the show with the reboot. There will be a new host, for one. And, there will be a new villain.

We had Dr. Forrester and Dr. Erhardt, then Dr. Forrester and TV’s Frank, then Dr. Forrester and his mother Pearl, then Pearl with Professor Bobo and Observer. But, the new show will feature a new villain, but we don’t know who just yet. And that’s where you can help.

Today’s Mystery Science Theater 3000 Questions of the Day: Who should be the new villain for the show?

Give us your best suggestion. We don’t want guesses, we want ideas. And, where else but the twisted brains of the world’s largest supply of Moon Nukers than the comments section of IMAO. I turn it over to you now.

MST3K: The Reboot

mst3kBotsHave you heard the news? In the not too distant future, next Sunday A.D., Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be returning! But, of course, the whole story is complicated.

Shout Factory has purchased Mystery Science Theater 3000 and has licensed Joel Hodgson to restart the show. Joel has launched a Kickstarter campaign to do just that.

There will be new on-screen talent. Joel won’t be the host, there will be a new villain, and new actors will portray Crow and Servo. None of the RiffTrax crew (Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, who played Mike, Servo, and Crow in the later years) will be involved.

Confused? Just be thankful I didn’t give you the whole story about all the cast changes and network changes over the years. I could, you know. I’m that obnoxious. But I spared you of that. I’m that nice. You’re welcome.

Anyway, MST3K is coming back! Yay!

Which brings up the Question of the Day. Who should be the new host?

If you want to be a killjoy and be serious about it, go ahead. Or, you could play comedian and come up with a really clever idea that will make everyone else just laugh and laugh. Go for that.

Again, who would be your choice for the new host for the reboot of Mystery Science Theater 3000?

Cartoon of the day

No politics with this one. It’s for the MST3K fans in all of us. Or that should be there in all of us.
