Saturday Night Open Thread

When I was a teen, parents were horrified if their children wanted to see KISS in concert.

In 1997, I took my ten-year-old son to see KISS in concert.

I suppose that makes me a bad parent.

Oh, somebody (not me) happened to film that Columbus, GA show and post it online. Really.

  1. A couple of years ago I found out Kiss was touring with Def Leppard. I’d never seen either band and my kids had never been to a rock concert. I figured it was opportunity knocking so I bought us tickets. I found out after I bought them that it was a Sunday night. That’s when I felt like a bad parent because I knew there was no way we’d be getting home before midnight and it was a school night.

Luckily it was Labor Day and the last show of the tour so I got off scott free.

Also the concert shirts had both bands on them and that just increases the Awesome exponentially. However they cost considerably more than the Van Halen shirt I bought at the 1984 concert.

We’ve been to one other concert since then both because of the band and the situation.

We got to see ZZ Top in LaGrange play “LaGrange” and it was the first time they’d ever done that.

I think all that combined ranks me right up there with Fred MacMurray.

  2. Oh oh! I’m watching the news and it looks like Mohammad has been a very, very naughty boy again, And as is the norm he’s been naughty in the UK. I wonder when the Brits will ever learn that Mohammad really doesn’t like them. Glad I live in America where we are safe from this sort of thing. Or are we…?

    • Yeah, I saw the same thing on the news threads. Devastating.

Oddly, at first, I was thinking, “Why are these people bringing up the London Bridge attack that happened weeks ago?”

With three — or is it five? — locations begin reported, I thank G*d for our second amendment and feel sorrow for those disarmed in England.

Jihadi terrorists shouting ‘this is for Allah’ kill seven in knife frenzy at ‘FIVE’ locations in the capital: Hunt for men with 12in blades who began the rampage by mowing down revellers on London Bridge . . .

When I think back to the job I held in 1997, I can only think that KISS was the post-Michael Jackson, post-Britney Spears, post-rap alternative to pop music! Don’t beat yourself up. It was the sane place to take him. They have talent.
