Socialism, the one dumb thing that unites them all.
Free market capitalism has been tried at least once, in this country, it worked. Still does where the government will let it.
On the other hand, no matter how many times socialism is tried, and gets the same result, we get told real socialism has never been tried.
As Socialism runs out of other people’s money and their people discover they cannot keep enough of what they do produce and sustain everyone else the State has to increasingly use the threat of force, or actual force itself, to keep them in line and producing anything. It simply is not a sustainable model outside the earliest parts which is also dependent upon the status of the economy prior to the Socialist taking power. To the extent that any Socialist Government is successful it is almost always due to the amount of freedom, both economic and personal, it allows its citizens. Key word being “allow”.
