Good evening all. Got something that many might consider a little different. I know you probably know all these by heart. Seriously. Don’t laugh just yet. Tonight’s shew is going to be really big, a big shew.
On to the music.
We will return right after these messages from our sponsors.
A lot of various memories embedded, there.
But:
Theme from Peter Gunn
Mission Impossible, and
Rockford Files
have to stand out amongst them all.
My favorite bit of Peter Gunn trivia is that the iconic left-hand piano+bass groove is being laid down by a pianist who is more famous for other stuff: John Williams (who went by Johnny Williams in those days) was Mancini’s go-to studio pianist. Also Elmer Bernstein’s…I think Johnny also played the lovely piano part in the To Kill a Mockingbird score.
I noticed you used a “Post Enos” Dukes of Hazard opening credit.
My theory is a collection of spinoff tv show theme songs would be comment gold!
Theme songs from shows like:
Enos
Flo
After MASH
The Ropers
Mrs. Columbo
would make 100 comments seem like chicken feed.
He’s obviously in the pocket of Big Post-Enos!
Nobody I know could get in the pocket of Daisy Duke.
Does Mork get extra points for being a spinoff of a spinoff?
The Jeffersons
Maude
Frazier
Fish
So if I follow you, Mork is a spin-off of Happy Days which was a spin-off of Love American Style?
Can’t imagine why Fish didn’t take hold. Maybe it needed something extra. What if, now hear me out, Latka from Taxi moved in across the hall from Fish?!
It’d be cross-over-spin-off hijinks and hilarity!
Where does Laverne and Shirley fit in that?
Happy Days > Laverne & Shirley > Mork & Mindy
Enos wanted to get into the pocket of Daisy Duke.
Who could blame him really. But maybe he figured out she was just flirting with him to get out of jail time for constantly stealing his squad car in the opening credits.
Maybe that’s why he became a big city cop.
Maybe that’s why he became a big city cop
I bet he’s regretting that about now.
Politically incorrect theme songs!
Barney Miller had too many ethnic jokes but the best bass riffs anywhere on each version.
Even though the Twin Towers ticks me off every time.
That awesome Barney Miller bass riff . . .
I thought it was in Fleetwoood Mac’s “The Chain,” but I just checked, and it’s different. Oh well.
And of course the hate crime that was F-Troop
Cpl. Agarn is my hero. That’s the name I use in Clash of Clans and Boom Beach.
Sgt O’Rourke is my hero.
But my lawyer said I can’t talk about that.
Jane.
But my lawyer said I can’t talk about that.
Why the heck can’t they?
Not politically correct, but I saw this theme song a few places this week
Cracks me up every time.
Not PC how?
Great mash-up of my youth, putting it into a blender and pushing “Puree.”
Not sure what the clown’s story is. But the song is very definitely something that Bowie would have done, if he had thought of it.
I meant not politically incorrect.
That was my theme on the first two.
He’s done a lot of songs.
I found out tonight, looking for that, that he was on America’s Got Talent a few times, the first time doing a song by someone called “Sia”.
Simon didn’t like him because he doesn’t talk.
But that’s a plus in my mind.
Both not talking and not being liked by Simon.
Funny you should mention Bowie, he did a couple Bowie tunes pretty well.
Puddles is great. I’ve been a fan a long time. When I saw that he was going to be on AGT, I knew it was going to be a riot when they prejudged his appearance before they heard his voice. Clowns creep me out, but for some reason, Puddles doesn’t
Nother theme song, from the archives
The Young Ones
The best Brit tv show not named “Benny Hill.”
Cough Monty Python Cough
Cough overrated cough
Some of their movies were excellent, some of their skits on the TV show were excellent.
Some were….not.
Gets out notebook, strikes line through Veeshir’s name.
I’ve been kicked off better lists than yours.
I have no doubts.
This was a good show!
Every now and then I’d want to introduce it to my kids but then I’d watch an episode and think “maybe they’re not quite old enough for it yet.”
Simon and Simon had a good theme song
Different artist have put a metal edge on some TV themes.
I’ve always liked the (second) Magnum, p.i. theme, and this is a good version
Great collection! Thanks for sharing. I think Hawaii 5-0 charted on Billboard back in the day (1969)
Actually, if my browsing the web source is accurate, all these songs charted somewhere on Billboard.
WoW, lot’s of good stuff here, great comments and even better clips! Just one question? WTF happened to the version of Bonanza with the lyrics?
We gotta a right to pick a little fight, BONANZA!
You gotta a right to pick a little fight, just don’t pick a fight with me!
Who’s got the rest?
Sorry, I only know the lyrics to the Hogan’s Heroes theme.
