  1. I’ve no idea what the unifying theme is, but thanks for this version of “Talk of the Town.” For just her voice alone, she’s great — before even considering her composing and lyrical skills.

  2. “So, for the big prize, the Order of the Golden Emu, plus 10% for the big guy, what is tonight’s unifying theme?”

(Joe Biden, answering a debate question about his record on race. This is an actual quote…)

Biden: Social workers help parents deal with how to raise their children. It’s not that they don’t want to help, they don’t know what to play the radio, make sure the television — excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night, the — make sure that kids hear words, a kid coming from a very poor school — a very poor background will hear 4 million words fewer spoken by the time we get there.

“Cause if you could take care, if you were a quartermaster, you can sure in hell take care runnin’ a, you know, a department store, uh, thing, you know, where, in the second floor of the ladies department or whatever,… you know what I mean?”

  3. Speaking of music, In the Roy Rogers movie Apache Rose, the lady boat captain sings the song “There’s Nothing Like Coffee In The Morning”. But in the song she references “kissing in the evening” which leads me to believe “coffee” means something quite different than a hot drink.

Also of note, there are no Apaches in Apache Rose. As far as I know it’s not the name of the lady boat captain’s boat either.

There is a Rosa character, but she’s the daughter of the Mexican Oilman.

  4. Dang, took me forever, but I got it, you clever dog.
Every artist, not every song featured, was on the playlist of music videos on MTV’s first day on the air, August 1, 1981.

What really tripped me up was that it brought back memories of when every song didn’t sound the same — each had a different rhythm, chord progression. That was way back when MTV actually broadcast music videos.

I remember the date, because I believe I was among the first in the world to watch (or hack) a TV broadcast in stereo. I recall hearing that you could get a special receiver to get MTV in stereo. Instead, I managed to tape the two wires from the cable to the FM antenna of my quadraphonic stereo, scanned the dial, and voila!

    • I should have left it in the spam folder.

      Sigh.

Les is, of course, right all the artists were in the opening day offerings. The songs were different (Except for Blotto) than what was presented opening day. I really thought this would be the one that got through. Well, back to trivia salt mines for me.
