    • Even Mark Twain had a funny couple of paragraphs on a guy from Ireland who steps off the boat in New York, is given a swig of whiskey before the day is out to vote Democrat (he specifies that party), and does so again and again and becomes a ward boss, then becomes a politician himself.

      I think it’s in “The Gilded Age,” but I’d have to check.
