Possible ‘moonshine cave’ discovered under North Wilkesboro Speedway stands, Speedway Motorsports officials say
WGHP Fox 8 | March 26, 2024 | Dolan ReynoldsNORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A possible moonshine cave has been discovered under the stands at the North Wilkesboro Speedway, according to a statement released by the NWS on Tuesday.
During cleaning and inspection last week, staff noticed cracks in concrete in section N. Crews began removing seats to evaluate damage and repair needs.
“When we began renovating and restoring North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2022, we’d often hear stories of how an old moonshine still was operated here on the property under the grandstands,” said Steve Swift, senior vice president of operations and development at Speedway Motorsports. “Well, we haven’t found a still (yet), but we’ve found a small cave and an interior wall that would have been the perfect location to not only make illegal liquor but to hide from the law as well. We don’t know how people would have gotten in and out, but as we uncover more, there’s no telling what we might find.”
I am shocked, SHOCKED! that a sport that traced its roots back to moonshine runners might be caught up in such activities.
Fast cars, possibly fueled by alcohol, and moonshine? Nope, no connection there at all…
Pete Butt on his way to investigate.
Wait a second, here, a pulldown cord tied into a noise gets seven FBI special agents, but an actual illegal still only gets an incompetent Alfred E. Neuman knockoff? That hardly seems fair.
Noise? Noise? Really, autocorrect? Too bad one can’t lynch software.
Hang in there…
I just assumed some a$$hole was complaining about the noise from the racecars while sitting in their newly purchased house they got for a great price because it was next to a racetrack.
Although it’s equally plausible that Mayor Pete heard moon, and shine, and came running like an IMAO Poster to an Intern bikini contest.
Damn Revenuers.
I heard there was a chance back in the 30’s for the whole NFA to have been declared unconstitutional, and was on it’s way to the supreme court, after a ‘shiner got caught with a shorty shotgun that he had bought in a different state. Problem was, as soon as the ‘shiner got free, he disappeared, and his lawyer, not wanting to work for free for a no-show client never prepared the briefs. The government won its case using some terribly faulty logic (like, well shotgun serial number xxxx was never issued by the military, so it’s uncommon, even though similar shotguns were), but since nobody was there to counter, the NFA remained.
Hopefully they incorporate a functioning still into the restoration.
Reminds me of an IMAO post documenting NASA’s discovery of life on Earth.
