  1. Liberals like to say that it’s “prudishness” or that people are “repressed” when they avoid answering those kinds of questions. I’ve always doubted that. I attribute it to the fact that at 5 or 6, you can’t even begin to explain it in any way that doesn’t provoke more questions and I imagine the whole thing gets tiresome so people avoid it and skirt the questions.

    I don’t have kids, but I have a golden retriever, and when she comes in from outside all muddy and/or smelly, I look around, hoping I can punt the problem to someone else. “where do babies come from” is about the same sort of thing. Humans didn’t climb to the top of the food chain by grabbing everything by the tusks, we got there by being lazy, and getting things with tusks to fall over cliffs, of their own volition when possible
