Today, with the so-called filibuster ‘compromise’, a new form of goverment is being ushered in. A form of government characterized by the majority party caving in to the whim of the minority party.
The mighty bowing to the will of the weak.
The many telling the few “We’ve got you outnumbered and surrounded… we’re coming out with our hands up.’
The lion telling the mouse ‘I’ve got an ouchie, you win.’
This hopefully shortlived age when those in the majority will kowtow to those in the minority will no doubt be known as the Age of the American Idiocracy.
One shudders in fear at what will transpire next in the Age of the Idiocrat.
Will Kerry be allowed to use the oval office while Bush fetches him a half-caf double mocha soy latte?
Only time will tell, if the Democrats allow it to that is.

We don’t have a democracy, we have a republic, and the difference is important. Mob rule is just as bad as a single dictator. If this were a straight democracy slavery would still be legal. A republic allows the rights of a minority to be upheld against a majorities persecution. I’m not saying I like this decision, but some of the low-brow commentary on what we have or should have seems, to me, to be missing the point.
The problem here is that we peace loving conservatives have to fight the very instinct to instigate mob rule and use louisville sluggers on the idots, er, elected officials that seem to ignore the fact that judicial filibusters are breaking the rules to begin with.
Actually, Blenster, slavery was protected by the Dred Scott decision, and protected from the will of the people by the very insulated, republican (small r) court system.
It was ‘the will of the people’ that that s**t was going to stop, and four years and some pretty serious ass-kicking later, the will of the people was known, affirmed in several majority-supported Amendments to the Constitution.
The will of the American people is slow, cantankerous and obstinate, but it moves inexorably in the direction of the good.
IMA(ngry)O this is how the Republicans have always acted. They seem to have been listening to the MSM too long and now believe that bipartisan = doing what the Democrats want and unilateral is a Republican legislature winning a vote.
a4g is right on. Blenster, which side (North or South) was the one that needed the 3/5 Compromise to even get a theoretical populational equal representation? Which side could afford to lose more troops (and did) because of a larger population? Cheese on Friday, I didn’t even study the Civil War and I know this stuff.

You’ll be glad that there still is a judicial filibuster after the next economic down turn. Everytime we have one the ruling party gets kicked out of office. Now who here wants a hippy to be a judge?
I realized yesterday that we’re darn lucky we don’t have to deal with this sort of thing all the time. Those 14 are a virtual thrid party, like you see in every kinked up parlimentary nation.
Two party rule is nothing more than tradition, but it’s a tradition that keeps us chugging along.
Actually, that’s not entirely accurate, we are a republic yes, but that is shortchanging the U.S. A republic is a nation based on a founding document, such as our Constitution, but not necessarily democratic. We are more accurately a representative democratic republic. So, yes, we are a democracy.

I’m sick of talking about this crap. The RINOs screwed us. I’m not surprised. This whole ordeal will be repeated soon enough. When the President goes to nominate a new member to the Supreme Court we will have the same sht-storm. *sigh I wonder if that will be considered ‘extraordinary circumstances’? Hmmm, I’m betting that it will be. So IMO this whole compromise is just putting it off till later.

DT’s got it. The most sickening thing is that Reid (I think) admitted that the whole point of their fight was, “When an unnacceptable Supreme Court Candidate” comes up.
If they’re unnacceptable, why are they making it out of conference?
I like Mexicans. Do you like Mexicans? Some Mexicans are scary but, on the whole, they’re friendly and caring.
Steve makes a good point. It’s possible the Dems will be a majority in Congress again one day and will try to appoint judges and department heads. I wonder if Republicans will be granted the same compromises the Dems are getting now when they are in the same position? That’ll be a fun argument to see if it happens.
