IMAO Is Not Shutting Down

As I’m guessing you all probably know by now, IMAO has picked up a bit of unwanted attention when we were named the funniest right-wing blog at CPAC. Now quite a number of people on the left are focusing on us to prove that all right-wing humor is hateful and racist. There was first the numerous idiotic diaries at Kos, then the Huffington Post had their over the top, faked-outrage take on us, and then we’ve even become a regular object of hate on MSNBC, such as this recent mention by Chris Matthews — the dumbest man on television (our mention is near the middle of the clip):

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Now, this is all so stupid we’ve just been trying to ignore it and hope it goes away as we figure it’s been some slow news days and the left will soon find another object to hate, but now there is a bit of a boycott effort going (how do you boycott a blog? we don’t sell anything; what idiots) and our service provider keeps getting complaints about us. It’s threatening the blog, so I thought it was finally time to make a statement on this.

We’re not a hate site. We just do a bit of light humor from the perspective on the right, but we’re not racist. That’s ridiculous. Still, we’re going to work harder to make it known that what we’re doing here is just for fun and not hate. For instance, we’re going to stop the lolobama posts; I didn’t think of how its similar to lolcats we’re sort of comparing Obama to a cat and we all know the invidious racial history there. In fact, we’re going to lighten up on Obama a lot more; it does seem hateful when we focus too much ridicule on one individual. And we’re going to make fun of conservatives more — because this is all just fun, not partisan hate and there is plenty to make fun of on both sides.

And in the interest of balancing things out, IMAO is going to look into adding an African American blogger — he (or she) doesn’t necessarily even have to be on the right. Because this isn’t about ideology — it’s about being funny. That’s all IMAO cares about. And we’re going to continue to be around and be funny, so everyone so worried about us, please lighten up.

  1. @3 – Racist! Boycott Son of Bob

@2 – Me, I’m just hoping the negative publicity on this doesn’t snowball to the point where the powers that be at my day job decide I’ve become an Amanda-Marcotte-like liability and cut me loose.

  2. @6 – Wonder if Glenn Reynolds does pro-bono? If not, I suppose we could pay him in puppy shakes.

Sorry to be hogging the comments like this, but I’ve got a LOT of pent-up frustration on this topic. I’m glad Frank finally broke the seal on it.

  3. @18 – It just really grinds my gears that instead of being reasonable and saying “I, personally, don’t find your jokes funny because I don’t share the worldview that’s the basis of your humor”, liberals immediately jump to “that’s not funny, that’s hateful, and I will make it my mission to destroy you and everything you love”.

    Yeah. Tolerance on parade.

Also, they never spot the irony in the whole “fight hate with hate” thing.

  4. wouldn’t it be better if IMAO put on a 1/2 Kenyan 1/2 white Hawaiian blogger with a background in Marxism, Socialism and Communism?

Adding a “House Negro” really wouldn’t be fair, to Obama that is. He needs to be represented by one of his own kind!

  5. You’re obviously doing something right if you’ve got the attention of the state-sponsored media outlets. Congrats!

And I am extremely glad that the left has blown the whistle on this before it got out of hand. We wouldn’t want anyone calling the president Hitler or comparing him to an animal. That would be unprecedented…

  6. Hey, you Crackas, you ain’t bieng funny ’bout nothin’!

Y’all’s chickens comin’ home ta roost is all!

Y’all done said “IMAO is going to look into adding an African American blogger.”

Lookin’ for a Stepin’ Fetchit kinda Negro to carry Whitey’s water is more like.

Whitey done nuke bombed Hero-shee-ma an’ Naggy-sacky, ain’ no Black man done that!

Make fun of a noble, risin’-up, in-Whitey’s-face Black man like Barack Obama who makin’ changes to tha oppression? Thass jus’ shameful!! Show you some gotdang respect fo’ tha man!

    He bein’ tha President!

    You Honkey fools!

  7. I’m thinking what kinda people would boycott IMAO. That would be the kinda people who never go to IMAO anyway. Result, no net loss in traffic. Bonus: maybe a bump in traffic from people seeing why they’re being told not to go somewhere. (Used to see this all the time in the Navy; making a night club “off limits” did wonders for bringing in new military customers.)

  8. “…we’re sort of comparing Obama to a cat…”
He’ll come out on the sort end of that evaluation.

Look, I’m just going to come right out and say it – bluefin tunas are better than yellowfin tunas. If that makes me a racist so be it.

  9. This is definitely April Fool’s Day.

I did a quick search for “Bill Maher and imao” and found boycottimao.com and landed on Bill Maher’s page.

First, the site’s tag line: “Stop going somewhere you’ve never been.” -Liberals would never be that obvious.
Second, the phone number is for the DNC. -Quick Google search turned up this number.
Third, Bill offers up a copy of Das Kapital for calling the DNC number. -This was the clincher for me. Again, liberals would never be that obvious.

I must admit, however, that you had me going for a minute.

  10. If you really want the IMAO staff to represent America, you’ll need to get the percentages right. Mostly we see Harvey, Basil, and Frank. Well, 50.8% of you will need a sex-change operation. 2-3% will have to be gay. 13.3% will have to be over 64. 13.1% will have to dye yourselves black. You get the idea.

  11. @30 DamnCat,

i’m just going to come right and say it. while bluefin tuna may be better than yellowfin tuna, having fished for and caught both ahi (aka yellowfin) and dogtooth tuna, the one you caught is better than the one you didn’t.

that probably makes me a catchist

  12. You know, I’m real glad I’m a rent-free tenant in so many of your right-wing minds. Owning the echo chamber as I do. Maybe it’ll help you evolve and be more accepting. HA! Like I care. Sorry, folks, I have too many Playboy models to chase down and dip into Dom Perignon-filled jacuzzi tubs. Ever done a rail of Bolivian Happy Dust off the thigh of a British Page 3 gal? No. Of course not. Kneeling at the altar of John Ashcroft and Oral Roberts as you guys do means doing something like that would make your head go pop! And it just bugs you that a guy who makes Herve Villachaise look like Kareem Abdul Jabbar can get away with it.

Just wanted to pop in and say that this will be the only time I pop in to say anything.

    Cuz there’s a boycott, right?

  13. Hi guys, just wanted to say that this kafuffle of yours going on with folks like Maher and Jon Stewart is making the TMZ webpage. Apparently Jim Carrey is really p.o.ed at you and Billy Joe Armstrong and Courtney Love are setting up a “Boycott IMAO” benefit concert in Pomona.

  14. Oi, Frank J. and Harvey, sod the wanker leftys! You need support and PiL will be there! I’m on the phone with the punter who’s the owner of the site of the 1974 World’s Fair in Spokane, which is near Idaho, yeah, and a pro-IMAO bennie could be set up there easy-breezy. Could line up Lee Ving, The Chesterfield Kings, and perhaps Henry Rollins for openers. Sounds good, yeah?

  16. My assistant read some of your things to me while I was at the spa getting exfoliated and waxed, and what I heard didn’t sound that nice and I bet makes some people feel unhappy. I was so bugged by this that I had my assistant type this to you people. If I had the time between going to my obgyn and having brunches with my bffs I’d maybe cry. Or have my assistant do it for me. I mean, I’m busy, y’know. Maybe I’ll get angry about your hating on our president when I have some me-time. Or I’ll just have Khloe do it for me. I mean, I’m gonna be a mom and I have to make arrangements for what my assistant is going to do for me when the kid arrives, y’know. I mean, your stuff is so unfair I might just have to get Bruce to do something about it. Like maybe tell me what a boy cot is? Is that like what your grandparents set up in their guest room when your little kid brother has to have a place to sleep? I’ll just have my assistant look it up on my smartphone. Whatever it is I’m for it and I’m not gonna support meanies.

  18. Couldn’t find the ‘rightwing hate site not funny’ post at Huffington Post or any mention of IMAO in the Chris Mathews clip (by the way, you owe me 13:22 of my life back).
I did hear Ron Reagan talk about ‘democracy’ and some poll result in the same breath about 5 times – yeah, I can see how that would work.
Media hypes a story, pollsters rush out while everyone is riding the resultant emotional roller-coaster, opportunist politicians shout “Democracy!!!!111!” and pass any damn thing they want because that’s “the will of the people!” and we all wake up the next day wondering where these chains around our necks came from.
Government of the pollsters, by the pollsters and for the pollsters.

  19. When you put **Tingles; The House Blockhead ** on and don’t give us a clue where he mentions this site, you create all kindsa’ problems.
Like me, for instance, continually suppressing my gag reflex, while trying to see IMAO’s mention.
    Have a heart, will-ya please…?
(…and while we’re at it , where was your warning about Little Ron and His Built-In Face Baggage?
I swear the one on the right is labeled : “Samsonite”, and has clasps…)

  20. Oh! Noes! FrnakJ is going to shutdown lolbamas! Whatever shall I do? Wherever shall I go? /Three Sheets to the Wind

On a serious note, does kos still exist? I thought huffpoo has become like a hollywierd speaker phone or something.
