Favorite Posts/Moments Open Thread

I’d love if you’d post some of your favorite posts or moments from IMAO from the last 15 years in the comments. I’d put up some of my own, but I’m afraid it would be like the Simpsons where every one would be from the first few seasons.

Anyway, what do you fondly remember about IMAO? I did love doing the podcasts with SarahK, Harvey, Spacemonkey, and Lair, but man were they a lot of work.

  1. Specific examples would include “Obama keeps getting his head stuck in a bucket. This is a known problem”; the riffing on “Obama ate a dog!”; and Carpenter’s “YGDFT!YLTATSOTE!”.

More generally, “15 Fun Facts About . . .” “Q and A” articles, and Random Thoughts are always good, because of the time and thought that go into them.

Oh, and “Frank Responds to Spam.”

  2. Dubya in a disco dance-off against Satan for the future of America. And the running Rumsfeld Strangler gag. Really, all of In My World. The Know Thy Enemy feature. And the tour of the 50 states thing kept me coming back, although it got a bit repetitive sometimes.

And whenever I drop by, I’m hoping to see a shiny new Random Thoughts post. Even if it’s just a few lines long.

    • Coincidence. I posted about IMAO.US (over at blog.dilbert.com) and sarcasm free of the chains of subtlety earlier today, with a recommendation to check out “In My World” and “Know Thy Enemy”. Good stuff.

  3. And, thankfully, there was this literally-reassuring post after Obama’s reelection:

My philosophy is that anything beyond your daily bread is a luxury, and from that perspective we live a very rich and luxurious life here in the United States of America. Nothing guarantees that will continue, though, and no one owes it to us.

    . . .

So how do we change the country? We have to forget about politics, because politics is small and insignificant and America needs to be a place of big ideas and grander things. One of the defining characteristics of a conservative is that we have many, many things in our life much more important than politics. Family. Careers. Religion. Politics is but a bump in the road compared to these things.

So if we want a better government, we need to be a better people.

    . . . .

It won’t be an easy journey. It’s not like we lost our way just recently. It started in the beginning of last century when the federal government began to guarantee people’s individual security, i.e., making sweet promises it’s too inept to keep. How do we get away from that mentality? Who knows. It would be unprecedented, which is why I’ve always thought “classical liberal” is a better label for us than “conservative.” We’re supporting radical ideas of liberty that have never been achieved before. And they’re still scary to many people. Which is why we need to be a stronger people. Independent people who all truly believe they can best take care of themselves. And only then can we work together to achieve greatness like this world has never known.

So that’s what we’re working for. And if you can’t do it with a smile on your face, then I recommend giving up worrying about politics altogether, as it is not worth the aggravation. We have to continue forward with hope — not hope in some government or idiot bureaucrats, but hope in each other and our abilities.

    . . .

Many have worked hard and even died to give us all the opportunities and luxuries we have now. Let’s take advantage of them and not be a bunch of whiny sissies about all this.

Let’s not forget that FrankJ is a darn good theorist (philosopher may be too high-falutin’ a word for his comfort) in addition to humorist, verbal stylist, and satirist.

  4. Let’s see: I first came here as a result of Frank’s famous post about Glenn Reynolds maintaining his prodigious energy by putting puppies in blenders, turning the blenders on, and then consuming the result (I was Silicon Valley Jim back then). I’d regard that as a real highlight. Like many others, I have fond memories of the Chronicles of Dubya, including the Rumsfeld Strangler and Buck the Marine. I liked that Dubya always called Karl Rove “Rover” and Alberto Gonzales “Speedy”. I still laugh at the memory of one episode in which Dubya was wearing Curious George pajamas and commenting on how good pudding cup time is. It’s been fun watching Frank morph from a bachelor wooing the lovely SarahK to a father of three.

I think the most fun, though, has been reading the comments. There have always been some extraordinarily funny people here (and “always” means that many of the commenters here are as funny as anybody).

  6. Frank Responds to Spam, the occasional stick figure cartoons (or did I just dream them?), and especially Lolbama & Lolterizts, as they often inspired me, but I didn’t envy the amount of editing, soliciting, and other hassles that obviously were involved in publishing them.

    • That’s why I post them – because you COULD find them, but you’d have to go through the same weeding & winnowing process I have to. About 80% of the videos I watch turn out to be junk and never make it on the blog. What you see here is the B+ and above material that I find.

I love Moon Nukers too much to have them have to sift through the F list.
