  1. Salmon P. Chase, the man whose picture is on the $10,000 bill, and who was the Secretary of the Treasury during Abraham Lincoln’s first term, was born January 13, 1808, in Cornish, New Hampshire, which is also where J. D. Salinger lived for the last decades of his life.
