I remember my Big Sister (who’s 5’4″) bought the single “American Pie” back about 46 years ago. It had the first half the song on side one, and the rest of the song on side two. The first side faded out just over 4:00 into it, and the flip side picked up fading in where the A-side had faded out, right before the “Helter Skelter in a summer swelter” verse. We’d play side one, then flip it over to have the full song. They never played the full version on the radio. It was the only way to hear the whole thing.

Concerning the day the music died, you might find this an interesting story….
King Gillette, the man who invented the disposable safety razor blade, was born January 5, 1855, in Fon du Lac, Wisconsin.
My older sister had that 45 as well. I remember it fading out on A and having to flip it to hear the entire song. Cool memories.
