  1. Pretty sure the opposite of a rough week would be an easy week.

Oh, speaking of liberals, well immigration really, I found a solution (perhaps not the solution) to the problem of people who were brought to this country illegally as minors. Thinking back to how King Solomon offered to split the child of that belonged to one of the two women (who both claimed him) and how his parents (David and Bathsheba)’s first child died, I suppose I thought about “the fruit of the poisonous tree is poison” which is more from a dramatic TV show than the book of Matthew, but close enough to get the point across I think. The issue is that no one likes the idea of ejecting these young people from our country back to the land of their birth, where they might not even speak the language. However, it’s not fair to the people who obeyed our laws and followed the strenuous regulations required to live in the US legally for illegal behavior to be rewarded. As others have pointed out (probably including Sarah Hoyt), we have to enforce laws if we are to remain a nation of laws.

So, the illegal behavior has to be punished and not rewarded. As Abraham Lincoln did (I am thinking of the deserter he pardoned), let us temper justice with as much mercy as possible. Let these people who were brought here illegally as children remain if they wish and if they are law abiding themselves. Their parents will have to be deported. It was the way of things for ages that immigrating set one apart from your family (as I’m sure I read Ms. Hoyt—a legal immigrant herself—say).

Furthermore, these individuals who are allowed to remain can receive permanent residence status, but never citizenship nor can they sponsor anyone else for entry or residence into this country. Their children can become citizens if they are born here being they would be natural-born citizens of our country.

Can you come up with something better—that does not reward illegal behavior?

  2. The obviously best answer would be multiple levels of citizenship. Level One would be legal residence/ non-voting/ tax paying and with good behavior full citizenship only after 10 years residency and after passing the appropriate tests and demonstrating a competent knowledge of English. Level Two would be children of Level one immigrants who, upon reaching majority age of 18 shall become full citizens if also having been in the country for 10 years or by passing the appropriate tests for citizenship. I would also make it easier for legal migration. Everyone subject to background checks. I think the biggest thing would have to be denying voting rights until full citizenship were granted. Which also means it would disappear with the very first court case so I just being a dreamer here.

    • Honestly, I go “yuck” at the idea of different levels of citizenship, but I like the idea of easing the restrictions on legal immigration. On the other, hand if you don’t call it citizenship, then you get to stay here-ship is kinda like what we do now with green cards.

      • I really want to avoid a situation like with the Palestine “refugees” in the Middle East. I put refugees in quotes because my understanding is that these people are descendants of people who fled Israel (hoping to return after Israel had been wiped out?) in 1948; i.e., they were born in whatever country they are in, but are considered “Palestinians.” I want the current DACAers to be a one-time group.

  3. If they could become Americans it would work, certainly that’s how it worked in the past. The problem is they become hyphenated Americans with all the rights of Americans but with the mentality and demands of the Hyphenated part. Which the Democrats make sure to include, “Vote Democrat” and expect your handouts. Oh, and whinge incessantly over every little problem they encounter here because it is somehow our fault our country is different from the Sh*thole place they couldn’t be bother to stay in and make better.
