Most people think Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was the Beatles’ best album. My favorite song on that album is the one that closes it out. Like they saved the best for last.
So, what’s going on with you? Got something you’d like to share? Saturday Night Open Thread means you are running the show.
What’s on your mind?
Ever here Big Daddy’s cover of the album? It’s amazing, like Sgt. Pepper done as various 50’s acts — Mathis (“A Little Help”), Freddie Boom Boom Cannon (“Mr. Kite”), a beatnik version of “Within You,” and most amazing, and chilling, Buddy Holly (“A Day in the Life”). Funny, moving, interesting.
A friend of mine lost his house in the flood caused by Hurricane Harvey. He’s resettled now but is basically starting over. One thing he wanted to do was make his own Kubb game (pronounced koob). Another friend and I got to spend a great Saturday making him a Kubb set out of 4x4s and closet rods. It’s a surprise so don’t tell my friend we’re making it for him. See the video below to find out what I’m talking about. We use tent stakes and string for the borders. I’ve never heard of the stacking rule this guy talks about.

It’s a fun game if you’re interested.
Duke Ellington was born in Washington, D.C., April 29, 1899. Here he is with his band in 1962, as they perform his signature tune, “Take the A-Train”.
Everything album the Beatles put out after their first two were different than its predecessor so they were great in their own way. Some people say Pepper, Revolver or Rubber Soul. Pepper did have a greater social impact though. Even when they were breaking up they made some great music… Abbey Road. Me personally, I like the era of Revolver/Pepper since my favorite songs bridge both albums, “Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane”.
I’m surprised because so many rate “Rubber Soul” as the best Beatles album.
It’s good, but….
I just opine that the later the Beatles album, the better it is.
I’d have to choose Sgt. Pepper as their most influential and “change-agent” album, though, even if it’s not their best.
