We’re going to play a fun game! I’m going to put up a bunch of statements people have said about my new novel Sidequest: In Realms Ungoogled, but one of them I made up. See if you can figure out which!
I’m not one who is into typically geeky things, but I geeked out when I read this book. It possesses a love for and sense of humor about its subject matter reminiscent of Ready Player One, but not nearly as jaded and pop-culture obsessed.
It must be pointed out that SIDEQUEST is primarily a satire, and rests on a thick layer of ridiculousness. But below that is a real concern about evil, and how we recognize it, or don’t, and how we confront it, or don’t. In a world where evil is all too often abused or abetted by happy smiley people who should know better, it is a valuable document.
Sidequest is a thrilling, witty fantasy adventure so well-written it makes the works of George R.R. Martin and J.R.R. Tolkien look like stupid garbage a moron baby would write.
The story kept me turning pages, even though I normally don’t read this genre. Fleming’s wit and endless one-liners kept me laughing and wanting to know “what next” – a question I never dare ask in real life, but in fiction, it’s fun to find out.
