One of my favorite music videos from the early days of music videos was the Dire Straits song “Money For Nothing.” I liked the song before I saw the video. I liked it after I saw the video.
What’s on your mind? Got something you’d like share? A joke? Something that’s been on your mind? It’s Thursday Night Open Thread.
Who wants to start?
I love this album. Dire Straits is the shiznit.
My favorites were All Dave, All Night, right there on Dave TV!
That and Aqualung, mostly because Ian Gillian made me laugh. In that video he’s the most tripping person you’ll see on the TV.
How’d he do dat?? https://biggeekdad.com/2018/06/the-ultimate-survival-backpack/
I’m saddened for our country that there is a “PC” and “non-PC” (original) version of this song. We all knew that the use of the word “faggot” was an Archie Bunkerism, nothing more. Well, everyone except those who heard the song twenty years later.
And for that matter . . .
Let’s ask the PC Police who excised the word “faggot” out of the video: does that edit imply that there is no equally objectionable instance in the rest of the lyrics in the song?
They have no problem with guitarists getting money for nothing? “No.”
Chicks for free?
“Well . . . they . . . ”
“Shaking it in the camera?”
“That’s a woman’s freedom of expression. It’s empowering.”
Couldn’t the video be offensive to people who sell microwave ovens and move color TVs?
“We don’t concern ourselves with that.”
Well, is there any line in the video that could conceivably NOT be offensive to someone?
“The song is just a parody of that working type, that point of view,” the libs will perhaps confess. And perhaps they will not.
Our culture is in dire straits.
One of my all time favorite Al tunes. The original is also great, I want the opening drum part and guitar riff for my walk up music when I make it to the Major Leagues.
