1979:
Started work on the new Python movie [The Meaning of Life].
. . .
America is about to indulge in its own maudlin fascination with power and privilege now that Ted Kennedy is running officially for President.
. . .
Have we not become as established as the Establishment we seek to kick? Are we not really licensed satirists?
. . .
JC warns, splendidly, that “We’ll show them how silly a film can be.”
— Michael Palin, Diaries 1969 – 1979: The Python Years

Did not like that movie one bit.
The sex-on-a-desk skit (much as I like sex on a desk) seemed to go on too long;
The let’s-offend-Catholics skit seemed to alienate half their audience gratuitously;
the glutton sketch was gross;
but I liked the song about the universe spinning. Although I can’t remember the lyrics.
