QOTW: In order to form a more perfect union.

Okay I’ll admit it. I kinda like the US Constitution. I’m not really into seeing other forms of government at this point in my life. Personally I think the biggest original mistake of the Founding Fathers was the underlying belief that their posterity was going to be as smart and dedicated to freedom as they were.

Small mistake.

So as much as I hate to admit it there might be some teeny tiny changes to it that would make it better.

I would tighten up the language on voting processes and such. Only citizens vote, must be identifiable and physically present to cast a vote. Something along those lines.

So how about you all? What might you change, what amendments might you add. Come one, let us establish some kick-ass domestic tranquility.

  1. Abolish the 17th amendment.

    Clarify:
whether or not States could leave the Union
whether sections of a State could join another
whether States could combine with other States to form a new one

Elaborate on the Enumerated Powers. No, you can’t do that, you power hungry fool.

Establish criteria for voting privileges. Provisions for an exam that demonstrates basic skills in math, economics, history, civics, common sense, firearms, lumberjacking, and sewing.

No Canadian team should be allowed to win a “national” sports trophy.

  2. Tighten up voting is a good one, but that doesn’t really require a Constitutional change.
I would, however, like to get rid of the census and determine representation on the number of voters who cast ballots. That way states don’t benefit by getting extra representatives because they attract illegals. This would obviously require penalties for states that do not maintain their voter roles. Barring that, change the census so that representation is based on number of citizens in a state, not the number of persons.
I would add a right to life amendment.

  3. Clean up those wayward commas in the Second Amendment.

    Define “natural born citizen.”

Spell out the role of the Supreme Court clearly. Don’t let precedent become law.

As said already, emphasize Ninth and Tenth Amendments. I thought they were clear enough, but they weren’t.

Explain that the preamble is not intended to be law. “The General Welfare” can mean aything.

  4. Congressional term limits, recall process for Senators (HoR terms are too short to bother with recall) and a 25th Amendment style process for Congress and judiciary. (McCain being absent for almost a year while still drawing taxpayer salary did not sit well with me, and the delirious RBG is just as likely to slip into a coma as to die outright, leaving an empty chair on the Supreme Court that might not be technically vacant for years.)

  5. Accepting those in the States at the time of Ratification and the Freed Slaves there after, only those born in the US where at least one parent is a citizen are considered citizens.

All citizens of voting age may have a gun to defend themselves, others, and property.

Congress shall make no Law demanding citizens give up their private property without owner’s consent, excepting Taxes legally appropriated and in times of War for the defense of the nation. In times of War Congress is to reimburse the owner and if possible return said property upon ceasing of hostilities without demand of repayment of compensense.

Congress shall make no Law demanding citizens purchase something to suffer a fine for refusing to purchase. This cannot be a Tax.

No State shall boycott another State for any reason.

No State shall boycott a citizen or his business for exercising their rights.

  6. Add the “no commie” amendment. Yeah I know….freedom of thought and all that but no commies.

Be a bit more precise in the “general welfare” clause.

Add the phrase “that means you too, California and New York” where appropriate.

Repeal the 16th and 17th amendment.

Add qualifications to the right to vote. Identification, proof of citizenship required. Proof of paying taxes (and not getting it all refunded or tax credit…actually PAYING them and having them be a significant portion of your income) required to vote. If you don’t pay you don’t get a say in how the money is spent.
