There was a doubleheader the next day so I am now leaning to this as the proper result. One caveat is that the Ad also says “Yankees return home” and the date appears to be either 23 or 22 of July. They did return home on the 22nd so I am 99% confident now that the July 2nd is the right game.
Nice. Now I want to go to a double header and drink Keystone Light with peanuts. Never been to a doubleheader..or even a single header in the Bigs…only the Smalls.
When I was nine or ten I went to Shea Stadium with my school friend and his divorced mom.
It may have been a double-header, because I feel like I have lived through one.
My friend kept track of every pitch on his scorecard.
We also walked through Central Park, as one of those “must do” things when in New York.
I wonder what the story was behind this trip.
Makes sense, because ad below it announces a Festive Holiday Grand Dance, which would seem to relate to the Fourth of July — as does the Uncle Sam hat.
I wonder who won the game between the Yanks & Tigers? Often wondered.
With a little digging it looks like the Yankees lost both ends of a doubleheader on July 17th which appears to be the date on the advert.
Game One
Game Two
Cool..And after that I hope the Red Sox beat them.
Sorry, Yanks rally bottom of the ninth with two out to score 3 runs and win 7-6.
But the Red Sox did sweep the Yanks July 8-10th.
Oh, one last thing. Red Sox finish season 65-89 which put them 32 games behind the pennant winning Yankees.
Further research indicates the concert was held on July 2nd. The Yankees did have a game that day against the Tigers

I’m old enough to have attended a few. And none of that separate admissions nonsense they sell as doubleheaders these days.

Did you happen to see that famous coffee shop called Central Perk?!

Pretty sure there’s a transposition of these guys’ names:
Gerry Mulligan with Dizzy Gillespie in the living room with a dog at Dizzy’s home.
— Library of Congress
Probably.

Is that Jackie Robinson?! I wonder if the dog got an autograph?
Do you think anyone got film of Buster Crabbe in Dick Randall’s Aquarama?
I heard the FBI did under Edgar J. Hoover.
No one wants to see the film under J. Edgar Hoover.
Louie Armstrong and Dizzy Gillespie in the same venue? Two trumpeters enter, only one leaves, because there can only be one…
“With heart, faith and steel. In the end, there can only be one..”
