Spacemonkey Perspective: Imus, Blogs, and Losers

So what if Imus says bloggers and those who read blogs are losers. If he did say that, well, he’s probably about half right.
My perspective on this is as follows.
I won’t argue that bloggers aren’t losers. I do own a mirror. And even the cool bloggers are still a bit geeky. I won’t name any names.
But blog readers are of a different sort. They don’t deserve this ‘loser’ status. Blog readers have an educational requirement that radio listeners simply don’t have. You see, since they are blog readers, by definition, they have to, y’know, know how to read. Radio listeners only need one functioning ear and access to a functioning radio.
To call blog readers losers is, simply put, to do them a grave injustice or more simply put as a radio listener might say, ‘mean, bad, me smash’.
So, if a radio listener calls you a loser because Mr. Imus said so, have them read this blog post or if necessary, read it to them.

Oh and sorry, if you read any of the the other posts on that blog, they is liberals.

  1. Bah, Imus has always been a bigger loser than many bloggers. He’s just mad that so many are so much more respected than he is. Think about it from his view, he works his butt off for years and years, and even drags his sorry a$$ to work when he’s near death but along comes these bloggers. They are more respected, more well known and acomplish all this nearly overnight compared to him. And to add further injury – they do it part time while working at their “real” jobs!
Ooooo, that’s gotta hurt something fierce!

  2. I used to watch Imus; not so much for his cranky anality, but I liked Bernie and Charles. I wonder if his “loser” tag applies to Wonkette and the other LLL bloggers/readers as well. Let’s face it, MSM is losing its information gatekeeper position, thanks to blogging. Heck, Jim Cramer proclaimed radio the sick man of media a couple of days ago. Time to retire to the ranch, Don?

  3. As a radio vet of nearly 20 years, here’s a prediciton: Imus is sinking.
First, because the gink has a face just made for radio… a point which the new more open set reinforces.
Secondly because the better look won’t help what comes out of the fool’s mouth, which has always been the problem with getting better numbers, anyway.
That could be easily demonstrated in my view, by getting someone like a Mike Smirkonish, or Neal Boortz in the same time slot on another network.
Imus was fine when all he had to do was intro a song, and try to gernerate a laugh or two. Even in the old setup, Imus doing talk was a stretch… albeit a manageable one for a segment of the listenership. For most it was unlistenable (As evidenced by his listenership numbers in the radio markets he’s in), but it was enough to survive in a timeslot that MSNBC couldn’t do anything with.
In the new set, it’s unwatchable, as well, and MSNBC will be looking for a replacement soon enough.
The odd part is, he’s still doing better numbers than Err America.

  4. I can’t take Imus seriously because I used to listen to him on radio in Cleveland when he did the a.m. show. (No, I don’t remember what station-sheesh, that was 32 years ago!) I even got to do the wake-up “rooster crow” one day…so I guess I shouldn’t take myself very seriously, either (and boy, did I pay for that one on the schoolbus !)
