A DUer Explains BDS

I frequently check DU out of a morbid curiosity, and it seems like there’s actually getting to be more reason on display there now. In a post about Iran, one said this in reference for apologizers for Ahmadinejad and civil rights abuses in Iran:

To a few on DU, you are either with us or against us. You agree with everything they say or you’re with Bush. You never have anything to say negative about any other country because we have Bush (apparently Bush being president means every single last American has lost not only all moral authority but also the right to point out wrong-doings in other places around the world). If you say that negative thing about that country anyway, you are a freeper infiltrating DU and thus you believe Bush is the best thing ever and you want to bomb their land back to the proverbial stone age.

Maybe because the Democrats finally won an election, sanity will start to spread. One would hope the abuses of Iran would always be something liberals and conservatives could unite against.

  1. Liberals and conservatives uniting behind one issue. Gasp, what are you thinking? The world would fissure right down to the core should anything like that happen.
We might really be able to experience “peace in our time” without being killed to get it. This idea will never catch on, sort of like Beta tapes and the Edsel. Dream on…..
Seriously as long as each side has fanatics that cannot live one day without stirring the pot, we are doomed to the situation in which we find ourselves. “Us or Them”

  2. You just know that if Hillary wins the White House, liberals will begin the hue and cry against the treatment of women in the Muslim world, and she’ll be full of weighty condemnations and cautious inaction. This will all occur right about the same time the phony issue of gay marriage quietly goes away.

  3. I’ve often wondered what the true constituency of the DU was. I’m not so sure how connected to the Democratic party they are. I grew up around a lot of people like them, flunkies who hung around the fringes of universities, the counter culture sodomites, freaky art school types, philosophy majors that went on and on about whatever. When I was young it was a lot of fun screwing with them but it did get old. The lifestyle did have its attractions. There’s a great freeing sense that goes along with all the freeform nuttiness, I think that’s the core attraction. In the end you though, you find that you’ve just wasted a lifetimes worth of brain cells.
I’ve also wondered how many at DU are legit. I mean there’s got to be a hoard of other sock puppets in there just screwing around. I know. I shouldn’t, but playing Simon Says with the lefty crowd can be endlessly amusing.

  4. The DU’s hero, Hugo Chavez has done it again:
On Foxnews.com a priest reporting from Carracas made note of a supposed grass-roots movement “sweeping” Venezuela that would make Saint Hugo the archbishop of the nation’s official church. All of his cabinet ministers would become lesser bishops!
S*^&t! This is almost funnier then, when at an official State dinner a few years ago, they seated Marrion Barry next to the Ambassador of Columbia … [insert your own joke here]

Bombs don’t kill people. Bombs strapped to Arabs kill people.

  5. I would’ve left a comment earlier, but I’m on leave and consequently I was drunk. Not that that’s ever stopped me before.
I, being a person who sees the glass as half full, choose to believe that’s an actual comment from a thinking Democrat. I’ve spouted in the past that there are such people, and aside from the occasional boot I get to the head, most people agree. We all know left leaning folks who genuinely are decent. They may hold different views, but are truly decent in their intentions.
So, why do I bring this up on a humor site? Because it’s a shame that it seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Single-minded, “agree with us or else” attitudes seem to have permeated the two most widely read Dem web sites.
I’m from TX. I can remember when being a Democrat wasn’t a badge that reads, “I hate America.”
