The Left’s Problem with Trig
It’s pretty shocking the way some of the left seem unable to separate politics from basic humanity and thus we saw the spectacle of Wonkette attacking Trig Palin, but something we also have to recognize is how much Trig scares the left.
This was something I noticed right away when Sarah Palin came on the scene. One of the few things known about her early on was that she brought a Down Syndrome child to term, and you could see the panic in the left. This wasn’t just someone whose rhetoric clashed with them on abortion; this was someone who’s action was a condemnation of the policy they support that results in 90% of children like Trig being aborted. A lie the left like to tell themselves is that all conservatives are hypocrites and would make the same craven choices in the same situation, but they couldn’t tell themselves that with Palin. That’s probably why the Trig trutherism soon appeared out of desperation.
There’s no greater refutation of abortion than an alive child, and thus Palin holding Trig and smiling is almost like a direct assault to the left. And it’s not so much that they fear other people being convinced on abortion as they fear themselves being moved. Who wants to come to terms with how horrible the policy is they’ve enthusiastically supported? That’s why they like the term “choice” instead of saying “abortion”; they never want to stare it directly in the face for fear of what they’d see. But, again, the mere existence of Trig leaves them no avenue on this. And that’s why there is so much ire directed at Trig. It’s not misdirected from Sarah Palin; it’s target is Trig because he did the greatest offense by existing.

Well, as far as the left is concerned, the “right” thing to do would have been for Sarah to have had Trig’s brains sucked out by a Planned Parenthood vacuum during a partial-birth abortion. Only liberals are compassionate enough to understand these things.

See, I figured it was because they’re liberal arts/social science majors.
Trig is their worst nightmare because they like to think they’re all smirt and stuff but they can’t do math.
Imagine if she’d named him ‘Calc’ or “DiffEQ”.

The existential problem for the left is that Trig has Down’s Syndrome, and his prominence has caused many people to understand how wonderful Down’s folks can be, despite the extra burden they may place on their parents. Think about the danger to the left caused by the potential of a smiling, happy seven-year old Trig in the White House.
Trig will be happier than the nimrods who attack him so. How’s that for self-actualization you godless humanists?

Well said Frank. In my years as a public school teacher the libs touted their compassionate nature because of their support for special education children, which they later decided was offensive and changed to special needs children. I never connected the dots to the fact is that if they had their way then majority of these special children would have been aborted by their continued support of the Roe vs Wade decision. All along they were saying “the right to kill the unborn is yours but if you are stupid enough to have one of these then will will support your stupidity by educating them” Trig highlights their hypocricy.

Trig functions are ‘transcendental functions.’ So, you could say Trig is ‘transcendental.’ And when he meditates, he’s doing transcendental meditation.
(Okay, you gotta know some math for that – which transcends the Left.)

And I thought their problem with Trig (and most infants) was they know he’s already smarter then they will ever be.

I thought I had seen vile before but I hadn’t until Trig Palin came along. Then the left had to do something quick! How could a mother be full of joy about having such a baby? This didn’t fit the narrative! It also probably doesn’t fit the pamphlets handed out at your local Planned Parenthood Abortion Factory! If you want to see true evil on display, just watch someone (anyone) justify the killing of a baby! Or making fun of a live disabled one! They are worthless scum!

I was about to say the same thing as rayfan87.

The ones who think Trig isn’t Sarah’s child are really the most baffling of all. The ramifications of a Sarah pretending that Trig is her’s to cover up for the fact that it’s Bristol’s, are nothing, really.
She’s so deceitful that she would take on a Down’s Syndrome baby that wasn’t her own, and raise him as her own, just so people wouldn’t know that Bristol is sleeping around? Fat lot of good that did. Wouldn’t that make her more admirable, not less?
Notwithstanding the fact that women in their 40′s are more likely to have children with Down’s.
Have they found the Trig’s birth certificate?

The Left hates happiness. The end.

Trig was Bristol’s AND Sarah’s love child from the aliens. As per soon-to-be-announced in msnbc.
With Trig having a much higher IQ than Obama mnd company, I can see where they feel threatened.
Gotta love that liberal compassion.

Trig reminds them that they do have a soul. To the leftist elite, having a soul was the first, true, and unpardonable sin.

No snark? Must’ve really struck home with Frank.
My buddy has a boy with the same condition. Without hesitation, he says the same thing. His son is a blessing. Before, he was a measurably a better father than me. His son has actually made him even more devoted to his family. His boy shares honest, unabashed love and acceptance every day.
I have no snark on the subject either. I do believe my buddy (and the Palins) when they say they’re blessed. And I’m an otherwise cynical person.

Perhaps my favorite of all the posts you’ve written; thanks for these words.

Whats even more disgusting is when they abandon calling it “choice” and refer to it as “womens reproductive health”. As if choosing to kill a child is somehow equivalent to choosing what shampoo to use.

I really should say, Frank, that this is a truly great thing you’ve written here. Knock ‘em down.

Trig for president, 2044!

Rock Throwing Peasant beat me to it. No humor. No sarcasm. Just unabashed horror at the behavior of amoral adults at the expense of an innocent child. Clarity is a hell of a thing. On the one hand, clarity is the only thing I require. On the other, it can make me melancholy.
It reminds me of political discussions I have had with Marxists of various flavors. They quickly become frustrated and label me and my beliefs evil. At which point, I invite them to compare the number of people murdered in pursuit of Marxist teachings with the number of people murdered in pursuit of liberty. They rarely respond. Good riddance.
I applaud your serious writing (and improved grammar/spelling).
Cheers,
HCG

What I’ve always wondered though is…whose going to take care of Trigg when Palin pass’s away? She’s no spring chicken.
April 26th, 2011 at 12:39 pm
This is a fine explanation of the Left’s hatred of Trig, but what about Bristol and Willow? What could be behind liberals’ vicious obsession with the Palin children? Is it possible to get a restraining order against a whole political persuasion?
April 26th, 2011 at 2:09 pm
Frank, you are so spot on here it’s scary. Palin commited the Ultimate Sin to the left, not aborting a special needs child. This leads the derranged left to hate EVERYTHING even remotely associated with Sarah Palin. Even Alaska.
I guess that’s one reason I like Sarah Palin so much. When it comes to abortion, Palin walked the walk.
