Five pillars, eighteen wheels, and seventy-two virgins… could he be any more obvious?
A truck-driving student is in custody in Boston after raising suspicions when he wasn’t interested in learning how to back up his rig.
WLVI-TV (Ch. 56) reported last night that the would-be trucker is a 28-year-old Muslim from India and had overstayed his visa. An investigation is under way to see whether there is any connection between his unusual behavior and a terrorism plot. Federal authorities were alerted by instructors at the Nationwide Tractor Trailer Driving School in Smithfield, R.I., WLVI reported.
The student was described as a resident of New York, with driver’s licenses from New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island.
But here’s the dumb part:
“Every indicator was there,” R.I. State Police Major Steve O’Donnell told WLVI. “Any one of these things alone is fine, but four or five together . . . “
That’s right. Never mind the multiple drivers licenses or overstaying your visa. Those, on their own, are perfectly fine in the United States. Nothing to see here. Please drive through.
And being a Muslim, well, that’s just wonderful. Nothing wrong with that on it’s own. We’re not haters here, you know.
But for God’s sake, don’t truckers in Rhode Island need to learn how to back the truck up?
If it had been some white English-speaking citizen with one driver’s license from Rhode Island not wanting to learn how to back his truck up, would that have been fine?
other suspicious signs are when they don’t want to know how to lift the seat , replace the toilet paper roll or even how to flush the toilet.
Or when they are in the stall for waaaay too long making that ulululululu sound and suddenly yell “Alluah Akbar!”

You severely underestimate the terrorist potential this guy poses. He could fill his truck with illegals and ram it into some important building, causing untold destruction to the tune of thousands of inexpensive man-hours of agricultural labor.
Um…Is this a joke, or are you guys idiots? It’s clearly one of the two, but sarcasm is difficult to communicate via plain text.
I don’t see how the fact that he didn’t want to learn to back up (whatever that means, the article didn’t elaborate), combined with dodgy immigration status (against the law, but far from uncommon) and Islam means the guy is obviously a terrorist.
If you guys are going to wet your pants every time a Muslim engages in behavior you find confusing, let me know now so I can invest in Depend diapers.

The humor part of it is not in the fact that this guy was a Muslim not wanting to learn how to back up and being on an expired visa … the humor is in the fact that a law enforcement official is o nthe record saying it’s okay to overstay your visa illegally or the fact that it’s okay not needing to learn to back up your truck.
If you’re going to read more material here, I’d suggest removing your head from your ass, sitting on your hands for a bit, and then reading with an unobstructed view.

Your notion that a puzzling unwillingness to learn how to back up (which, keep in mind, is completely unexplained) combined with a funky immigration status and Islam automatically means the guy was part of a terrorist plot, is much more funny than anything the arresting officer said. Thanks for the laughs.

I see your problem. I point out the absurdity of concluding the guy is a terrorist from such flimsy proof, and you immediately leap to the idea that I want to be his best friend. With a grasp of logic like that, it absolutely clear why you believe the things you do.

The whole story is that he was in a huge hurry to get a CDL with HAZMAT hauling endorsement. So you have a guy that is here on an expired visa, has multiple IDs, is only interested in driving forward, and wants a HAZMAT CDL ASAP.
Kind of reminds you of certain other guys who only wanted to learn to fly the planes, not take off or land…
The HAZMAT angle would give this whole story some legs…if it’s true. So far, the only person making that contention appears to be Michelle Malkin, who makes the assertion in the title of her post, but somehow is unable to quote any news sources that make any reference to HAZMAT whatsoever.

Of course, for people who accept Malkin’s opinion for fact, quoting a news source would be redundant. Here in reality, however, the rest of us remain skeptical.

So, you in “reality” need to look a little harder before you start critisizing those of us that do a little research.
