Obama to Give Speech on Race

Kinda like Romney had to give a speech to explain why he’s a Mormon, Obama is going to give a speech to explain why he’s a black man.
Seriously, though, Obama laid down with bigots for the purpose of political advantage, and now it looks like Obama’s chickens… are coming home… to ROOST! (I agree with Ace that most disturbing part of that sermon was how happy Wright seemed with himself; I guess less religious people would find the murder of thousands of people a much more solemnly contemplative occurrence)

  1. Found this quote in a USMC Strategy manual. It is a non sequitur in this context, but it is such a great one that I had to share it:
The nation that draws too great a distinction between its scholars and its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools.

  2. #4 – Hey Marine:
This country is lucky that our warriors are still scholars. Certainly our scholars no longer have the courage or integrity to be warriors.
So our fighting is still done by the enlightened men and women we see in Iraq and Afghanistan, while our thinking is done by the cowards we see in our universities.

  3. Will we be discussing how to keep this uppity half-black guy down at the next “white guy” meeting? You know, the weekly meetings when we white folk think up new ways to keep colored folk in their place. Oh wait, I’m sorry…that’s supposed to be a secret, isn’t it. Damn, my bad. Well, see everyone at the meeting. This week it’s at Ted Kennedy’s house.

  4. I’m sorry.
I still don’t think this Obama character is black. Or even part black, for that matter.
If he was, he’d be condemning Whitey for keeping him down, which in turn would preclude any notions of getting ahead in our obviously racist democracy, which is neither.
Aside from his current position, of course. But that’s not important.

  5. Isn’t this the speech Obama was going to have to give to appeal to the rubes in flyover country before the general election? Why is he wasting a speech on race while still running in the primary for the culturally-enlightened Democratic Party?
By the way, is his race REALLY that big an issue? I can see people voting for him because they want a black president, but is anybody but the extreme fringe going to vote AGAINST him BECAUSE of his race? This reminds me of Romney’s Mormonism: I heard a lot of press coverage on how the rubes wouldn’t vote for him because he’s Mormon, but I never actually heard a person say they wouldn’t vote for him because he’s Mormon.

  6. Oh, and I think I’ll start calling Obama a white guy. Why not? He’s as much a white guy as he is a black guy. Who’s to say I’m wrong? Reminds me of the episode of King of the Hill where the Asian country club honored Tiger Woods for being the first Asian Master’s champion. Classic.

  7. Then Stephen you obviously didn’t listen to Mr. Huckabee and his band of renown.
Besides Romneys speech wasn’t about WHY he was Mormon, it was to counter all of the STUPID comments, some seen right here on this very bastion of freedom and truth, that some people like to spread.
Believe it or not some people LIED and many others believed the lies.
Romney must have thought that if he was honest and upright about his faith people would at least listen. He was wrong. Religious bigotry is alive and well, just as racism is. It’s sad, but it’s true. (I have experienced this personally)

  8. The unfortunate truth is our country won’t accept a muslim, black, woman, morman, or anything beyond the norm. I am not saying that the two Democratic candidates should be president because they are about as liberal as they get. But it should be the liberalism that keeps them from being president, NOT their race/gender/religion.

  9. It’s great thet Obama’s finally explaining the whole “black” thing…I know that’s held his campaign back, I like seeing him address it. P.S. Did anyone else see “Ron Paul” appear in green next to the stars after they voted?

    Echo5a,
Having heard Obama’s stand on defense, it’s not a non-sequitur AT ALL.
The speech had so many little blanket statements against conservatives and equivocations that only make sense to a hard leftist that I actually found it as offensive as the remarks it was meant to address.

I agree with what you are saying about BO, I only meant that the statement had nothing to do with a speech on race. It is otherwise pertinent in judging all the current candidates since they aspire to the position of Commander in Chief.
    Peace Through Superior Firepower!
