Fark Needs to Be More Open to Criticism

I wrote a post Friday criticizing the the thinking skills of the commenters at Fark. Fark noticed it, and instead of becoming introspective and reexamining their mindless ways — as happened when I criticized YouTube commenters –they lashed out at me. And they obviously didn’t learn a thing, as my criticism that started it all was that liberals aren’t very smart but like to think they’re smart, but here was the average response (for the record, this isn’t an actual comment verbatim; I cleaned it up to make it more readable):

me smirt!!! u dum stoopid cunsurvativs r the ones u think r smirt but r the dum stoopid ones!

For example, here is a comment from someone calling himself MKinPR:

Back in my academy days, we had to take a class about mental retardation, and people who have low IQs. One of the things they taught us was that these poor people try to hide their disability by talking about subjects they know nothing about, as if they are authorities on the subject, and by trying to use big words, usually incorrectly. I think this behavior also describes Republicans perfectly.

So he talks about people pretending to be smart and in the course of it writes a whole paragraph to hide the fact that all he’s doing is screeching, “No, you are!” And what’s this “academy” he refers to? Is that something from World of Warcraft?

This isn’t to say everyone at Fark is stupid. Some have average intelligence and are simply mentally ill. But I wish all of them would take criticism of their actions a bit more thoughtfully. Still, it was nice to get all that traffic Saturday, because I made tens of dollars from GoogleAds, which I’ll spend on comic books and a big bag of candy.

UPDATE:

Ends up MKinPR’s comment was actually a copy of another comment with “liberal” changed to “Republican”. He got me good. Rascally farkers!

  1. Trying to reason with Fark-ers like those that trolled on over to IMAO the other day would be like trying to reason with Scary Evil Monkey. The poo was flying fast and furious. Hope everyone’s eyeballs are still intact.

  2. If those Farkheads had any sense they’d know that no one gets teased as mercilessly as someone who can’t take a joke. They madder they get the more ridicule they invite.

Since they were nice enough to send us an invitation, it rude of us not to respond.

  3. There was so much hilarity in that thread. “It’s satire, something you’re too stupid to understand”.

They don’t even know parody when they see it, they think it’s satire.

Wait, is it satire and not parody? Crap, now I need to read “Sadly, No!” to figure that out.

My favorite comment was this one
Awesome. You quoted comments from Fark but failed to recoginize that they where all giving you crap for being so arrogant.

They’re calling the web site IMAO (In my Arrogant opinion) arrogant.

Next, they’ll me making fun of you for thinking the pic of Obama holding the phone upside down is real.

Just hope they don’t notice that you never actually declare a winner in your caption contests. They’ll really make fun of you.

  4. Someone who has to recall what they were taught in “the academy” to locate in their experience someone who uses words they don’t understand to seem less stupid than they are and conflates by way of the fallacy of overgeneralization that person with Republicans* is stupid.

    ————-
    * how is that for an overly complex subject clause?

  5. Jees Frank! What is wrong with you? These people can’t help being mentaly slow. That’s why they lean left. They don’t have the basic mental ability to grasp reality. These Fark people more than likely didn’t have parents like yours that told them not to eat the paint chips at Grandma’s house.

Maybe you should make amends to these less fourtunate Fark people. Why don’t you offer to take some of them to the Zoo? I hear retards like the zoo.

  6. Wow, Richard, your parents let you eat grandma’s paint chips, too? We used to put salt and lemon on them, or sometimes ketchup, for the vitamins.

For some reason, Mom was really mad when they started in with this latex stuff. “Pencils have lead in them, and we eat those all the time!” she used to say. Ah, the memories.

  7. Back when I was in university (I was only 6 at the time), in between lectures on open heart surgery and reading Homer in the original Greek in Braille, we also had a class in how to detect stupid people. You can always tell a stupid person because they act like they are smart. So if you see anyone acting like they are smart, they are really stupid. Except me.

  8. Hey, I take pride in the fact that I got like 4 or 5 vitriolic comments directed at me personally for my comment about the death panels.

And just think, if the internet had never been invented, we would never get to see the brilliance of their arguments. Somehow, “you jackass asshole communist nazi thug” doesn’t show up in face-to-face discussions.

At least, not without said hippy getting punched in their stupid monkey face.

  9. Hey, we could start having a weekly FARK Bingo game! Just create a few cards with stock Farked Up statements, throw a shiny object into the midst of the ‘tards, and let the poo-flinging begin. First one who’s card get a line filled wins a prize.

  10. Make broad assertions about a large disparate group of people and then sit back and call them names when they don’t like it. Keep up the good fight. Your kind of crazy makes me glad I voted Democrat for the first time in decades. Thank you.

I think that says it all. Too bad this is red-lit this time.

  12. 21. I thought he was talking about Starfleet Academy

The scary thing is that he was talking about Starfleet Academy. Where no doubt he rooms with Wesley Crusher and has 7 of 9 as his private tutor and Al Gore teaches meteorology in his spare time. Wonder what the color of the sky is in MKinPR`s world. Yikes!

  13. Frank is crazy. Therefore, you decided to vote for a party full of people who think William Ayers and Jeremiah Wright are “mainstream”.

    Makes perfect sense.

Lemme guess, you’re also a concerned Christian conservative from Ohio who is very afraid of Sarah Palin?

Make broad assertions about a large disparate group of people and then sit back and call them names when they don’t like it.

Like when Harry Reid referred to protestors as “evil mongers”? Again, you make perfect sense.

  14. I agree. We conservatives should be more like democrats. Democrats like Pelosi, Axelrod, Dean, Kennedy, Dingell, Emmanuel, Reid, Frank, Watson, Begala, Franken, Garofalo, Gibbs, Jackson-Lee, Hoyer, Edwards, Massa, Durbin, Jones, Clyburn, etc……… none of whom have EVER made broad assertions about large disparate groups of people. No, thank YOU, Grape Jelly. Thank you.

  15. You know how you can tell Farkers and other intellectually superior people are intellectually superior?

It’s easy. They get together in registration required forums (where you’ll be banned for disagreeing or pointing out errors in their logic) and proceed to tell one another how brilliant their posts are & how they each say what the others are thinking.
They’re so smart, it’s almost like just being around others like them brings about mass telepathy! It’s also known as consensus, like the “fact” of anthropogenic climate change.

So if they gather and proclaim that they’re much smarter, who’s to say otherwise?

No one is; they get banned.

  16. Frank, in regards to MKinPR’s post, he actually took one of the first posts of the thread, and simply replaced “Liberal” with “Republican”.

This whole situation confuses me. Sometimes I don’t know if the people making fun of Liberals on this site do it because they actually believe what they are saying or if they are just looking for a humorous time. Personally, I find this blog as a semi-serious reality check, that the left can have just as much mud thrown on them as the right can. But at the same time, mud throwing obviously does not directly relate to how right or wrong one party is.

I guess I just need to have a better radar for just how serious some of the people on this site are.

    ,

  17. Frank, will we be throwing mud? No one told me we could throw mud, but Adam just said we could. I am a lifelong puncher of hippies, but throwing mud on them just seems sort of redundant, as many of them haven’t washed since Woodstock. Actually kind of seems like a waste of perfectly good mud.

I can see why Adam is so “confused”. He most likely wears a helmet, but doesn’t play on the team.

  18. Hey Grape Jelly,

Seriously, dude. “Teabaggers”? “Astroturfers”? Any of this ringin’ a bell?

And who says libs are disparate? All you idjits think alike. Have you ever posted anything conservative on Kos or DU? If not, try it. I dare you. You’ll only get one chance.

Again, lib knuckledraggers love nothing mor than to proclaim “Me smirt” at the top of their lungs while looking down their noses at anyone who dares disagree with them. But everyone can see the emperor has no clothes now.

  19. “Frank, in regards to MKinPR’s post, he actually took one of the first posts of the thread, and simply replaced “Liberal” with “Republican”.

Typical, since they never had an original thought in their life. Ever notice that “arguing” with a liberal is sort of like
a rerun of last night’s CNN? Like that game they teach you in 2nd grade where the 1st person tells a story to the 2nd, 3rd etc and by the time you get back to the beginning, the story is all screwed up. I bet that’s how “health care” reform suddenly became “insurance reform”.
“Frankly, it’s not really something I’ve followed closely, I didn’t even know that ACORN was getting a whole lot of federal money.”

Since he KNOWS nobody with a brain believes that…and nobody with a brain was even watching….who’s the
party of Retards and People With Low IQs 101?

  20. Again, my concern is being stressed with every new post. I no longer no how serious some of the people on this site are in regards to their comments.

I used to be able to read this site knowing that I was in for some comedic relief on political situations, but it seems some people might be taking this far more seriously that I ever had.

  21. This paragraph cracks me up.

So he talks about people pretending to be smart and in the course of it writes a whole paragraph to hide the fact that all he’s doing is screeching, “No, you are!” And what’s this “academy” he refers to? Is that something from World of Warcraft?

You made sense, until you actuall did the same thing in the last paragraph, you tool.

  22. I visited Fark and read over 300 comments on Frank’s article.
Compared to the gentle riparte’ at IMAO that I’ve grown accustomed to, it was like a visit to Arkham Asylum on bean barrito night.
Can a blog site have a ‘corporate consciousness’?
A spirit comprised of the contributions of the bloggers and commentors over time but more or different from the sum of it’s parts?
Something that attracts and gains the loyalty of a certain type, while repulsing others, and so feeding, protecting and strengthening itself?
Have we become part of the IMAO hive mind?
Is Fark another, different and rival hive mind?

If so, Fark’s collective head is definately stuck up its collective butt!
    IMAO rules!

  23. As the guy who wrote the point about retards trying to act smart, before it got changed, I am mad that I was plagiarized. As for the question about what kind of academy I attended, it was the one of the ones where you learn t arrest people for dope, and how to shoot gang members.

We also had to have sixteen hours of classroom time about mental retardation, in order to please mental retardation advocacy groups. Most of what we learned was bull manure, but I liked the statement about the mentally retarded trying to act smart, and using big words to hide their disability. Upon examining the rest of humanity, I began to note that pretty much anybody with a below average IQ did the same thing.

I guess my comment sounded really smart, so the liberal had to plagiarize it, in order to try and make himself feel smart. He probably forgot to take out the word academy, because he didn’t know what that word meant, but it was big, and sounded good.

[Heh. Good answer on what the academy is. I had an idea when a conservative refers to an academy, but I just assumed a liberal couldn’t be referring to anything real. -Ed.]

  24. Also upon rereading my original comment, I feel pretty lame. It wasn’t a good comment. My only defense was that I wrote it after coming off a really long shift. You know, I do work for a living. I may have also have been suffering from a contact high from manhandling hippies. You know if you forget to put on your latex gloves before touching hippies, you get really light headed, and don’t always think straight afterwords. I promise to do better next time, and not sound like such a simpleton.

Also, how dumb was the libtard for trying to steal such a horrible post?
