So, how many seats do you think Republicans will pick up in the House this November? I’m not trying to get my hopes up and will just predict they’ll get a majority, but I was wondering what everyone else is expecting.
I predict a tsumani. It will go down in history as the biggest lost ever for any political party. But the Reps better work fast and find someone to go after Obama in 2012…unless of course (as I predict) Hillary jumps in first. 🙂
And yes, I like Sarah Palin, too. But she’s not the top of the ticket.
Damfino. I watched the Health Care debate go through stages of:
“Can you believe these idiotic Democrats?”
to “Golly, this bill is really stupid.”
to “No way will the American people support this.”
to “Look at the deals they have to cut to keep their own folks in line.”
to “They’ll never get the votes to pass it.”
to “Lookit how bad the polling is.”
to “The Republicans have lots of ways to stop this.”
to “Here are ways that the Republicans can stop this.”
to “The Republicans can still stop this.”
etc.
Big picture how much does the number matter? Politicians like all cockroaches are first and foremost cowardly adaptable survivors. If the right doesn’t get more cultural/media power to both pressure those who get out of line and run cover for those who are being attacked by the left then those politicians will continue to skitter under the liberal refrigerator at the first sign of light from the media.
Trying to build a movement by electing lots of politicians to openly take on the media? “Swimming upstream” doesn’t even begin to describe that futility. More like trying to “swim up a waterfall.”
Conservatives can easily start turning this tide since they outnumber liberals 2-3 to 1 by supporting things like actors, movies, TV, news programs, businesses etc.. that support conservative values. (how do you think the left got so much control within 10 years of the 60’s?) Loudly protesting often backfires but America is made and remade everyday by billions of individual decisions.
Every dollar you spend is a vote. Vote responsibly.
Have you seen those congressional seats? They are like, made of real hard wood and stuff. Some of them also have padding, which doesn’t add a whole lot of weight but can make the grip sort of awkward.
I’m guessing 1 or 2, MAYBE three if it’s a republican with really big hands.
Quit reaching across the aisle
to appeal to the imagined mass of moderates,
fight for a continuation of the current income tax rates,
a sealed border, an end to government by commisars/czars,
and stop stealing money from our grandkids
then we can party like it’s 1894. 100 plus.
If they get as mushy as McCain and Castle, we’ll be lucky to win 50.
Anything less than 435 will be seen as a great refudiation of the
RAAAAAAcist Tea Party by the pasty white anchors of MSNBC.
Bob and Ivan have it right: quality over quantity. However, I won’t get excited until it happens. These liberals have shown they will stop at nothing to get what they want. This election cycle is going to get N-A-S-T-Y.
Don’t count your chickens before they hatch. Already here in Alaska we have Lisa Murkowski announcing she will be a write in candidate. That should divide the Republican vote and end up giving us another Democrat in the senate. Well done Lisa.
I predict an electoral earthquake. People who sorta took their country for granted have opened their eyes, looked around and said, “What the Blanking Mother Blanking Blank happened to my country just a minute ago while I was raising a family and watching Dancing with the Stars?
CCoffer… I don’t know. I’d like to think you’re right, but my husband is an example to the contrary. I talk about these things with him and point out all that the administration is dong/trying to do. When he doesn’t think it is a big deal or doesn’t have a problem with the administration I ask him questions on his points, he just shrugs and says, “We see the world differently.” I’m not sure how we see it so differently, but needless to say: I married a Democrat. In any case, he just doesn’t think Obama is so bad and no matter what I point out he just doesn’t change his mind. It leaves me dumbfounded. At least we have the same sense of humor: I took him to my old stomping grounds in Alaska during the presidential election. There was a movie theater in Homer showing Batman and Obama’s convention speech. I kid you not, the marquee read:
Obama
The Dark Knight
There were fewer states in 1894, therefore fewer congress critters in the House and Senate (which the Republicans also gained control of).
So to match the awesomeness of that landslide, the Republicans will have to gain 95 seats in the House, giving them a total of 309, and 20 (oh what the heck, make it 25) in the Senate.
(math wasn’t my best subject, but 71% of 435 is 308.85, right?)
My mad optimism will ebb eventually, but tonight I shall dream great things!
PS – Terry-Jim, you’re right, anything less than a clean sweep will be spun as some sort of defeat for Conservatives, but I can live with that!
70 seats in the house and 13 in the Senate. After the election also we will be creating a new position called the aisle monitor. Mr. Fred Thompson shall be our first candidate. When a McCain or Miss Lindsay try to reach across the aisle, he will take their arm and shove it up their a$$!
In 1894 the Republicans picked up 130 seat in the House, only 125 were Democratic losses. I expect less but will be inconsolable if it’s less than 80. I’m betting 80 plus.
To me it all depends on how many real conservative candidates we can field in Nov. If Republicans continue to support RINO’s we won’t win nearly as many as we could.
Here’s an interesting contra-temps. Republicans are being told by their elite not to vote for Tea party candidates ’cause they’re on the fringe and can’t get elected. Dems are telling people not to vote for people who act like Dems . Soooooooo do we vote for people who act like conservatives but who are Dems or do we vote for people who act like libs who are Rep. or neither or either ?
My vote is going to those candidates who either already walk and walk and talk the talk or the new guy who is for term limits, getting rid of Obummer care, closing the borders, turning off the money flood especially to our enemies and getting government out of my business. If he has had a real job or business, had to balance a real check book and has created jobs I’ll not only vote for him, I’ll join his campaign as a volunteer.
I’m a bit more cynical – I’ve watched the Republicans snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in my state’s governorship, and the Senate race is closer than it should be. Couple that with the internal bitchiness over the results of the Delaware primary, I’m not convinced that anything is a sure bet. To echo the sentiments of some of the replies her, I’ll be happy just to knock Pelosi off the top of the totem pole and gun for 2012.
predicting something like that is silly. I’ll predict what they’re going to do with their majority, how’s that? And I’ll predict the American voters are going to reward them for their actions appropriately in 2012, how about that?
Who cares? They won’t try to repeal Obama Care or anything else he or his brother (Bush) has done. In fact, they’ll probably support most of the things he’s planning to do: Immigration “Reform” Round IV (or whatever number we’re up to; I’ve lost track of how many times they’ve proposed legalizing 20M Mexicans), more bailouts for the elites, less freedom for the rest of us, war on Iran, etc.
75-90 is a good place to start.
60
dont care, we just need to stop the masturbation of politics.
int numSeatsPickedUp = MaxSeats – NumSeatsHeld(“D”);
77 in House, 11 in Senate
I hope Ace has lots and lots of pudding ready…
80-90!
Enough seats to guarentee that the Obama is stopped. If the american people had any sense, I’d say all of them. But 60 or so would do.
I don’t care about the GOP. The question should be “How many conservatives?”
30 to 40, 50 at the most.
80… yes that’s right 80….
41.5 that’s 39 plus 5 RINOs.
Ivan is correct…it’s quality, not quantity.
All of them.
I predict a tsumani. It will go down in history as the biggest lost ever for any political party. But the Reps better work fast and find someone to go after Obama in 2012…unless of course (as I predict) Hillary jumps in first. 🙂

I predict a grand BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA BRONX CHEER

I expect the weather will be colder then, but besides that, I’m not sure of much.
Depends how many Americans vote their values instead of the party line.
All of them.
Well, I can dream, can’t I?
It doesn’t matter since right after the elections Senator Palpatine will take over.
I have no idea. I say 50 to 60. 50’s a right nice number, ain’t it?
If all goes well, I will celebrate with some shootin’ and some Foggy Mountain Breakdown.
Have you seen those congressional seats? They are like, made of real hard wood and stuff. Some of them also have padding, which doesn’t add a whole lot of weight but can make the grip sort of awkward.

Depends.(Doesn’t it always?)

I don’t really care. just as long as it is enough to send plousy packing and enough to impeach the other sob.
I predict an electoral earthquake. People who sorta took their country for granted have opened their eyes, looked around and said, “What the Blanking Mother Blanking Blank happened to my country just a minute ago while I was raising a family and watching Dancing with the Stars?
I see an epic electoral beat down in the making.

Priceless.

Ooops. That should have read “some of the replies here”. I’m getting a head start on avoiding President Obummer’s upcoming silent ‘e’ tax…
predicting something like that is silly. I’ll predict what they’re going to do with their majority, how’s that? And I’ll predict the American voters are going to reward them for their actions appropriately in 2012, how about that?

80-90…and 12 in the Senate…
100+ seats
This thing is much, much bigger
Than we dare hope for.
What’s wrong with you people?
Didn’t your Momma teach you not to pick at your seat (or nose) in public!
How much do these seats weigh? Have the Republicans been working out? We need more data before we can make a decision.
