I actually got a chance to watch “First Blood” in its entirety on TV recently (usually I end up channel surfing into it about halfway through and missing all the early-stage mayhem), and I noticed – as if for the first time – the name of the town that kept pushing Rambo until he reached his breaking point and fought back with everything he had:

Is it just me, or is there a very strong Tea Party metaphor here?

“Welcome To Hope”? Interesting.
First we had a “boy from Hope” that disgraced our country for eight years. Then, we get a boy who promises “Hope”, who destroys the country in four. If a liberal offers you “Hope”, just say no.
That’s Hope, British Columbia (Canada), where the film was shot.
As in: “We hope we never have a dork like Obama for Premier up here”.
“If a liberal offers you “Hope”, just
say nopunch him/her/it in the face.FIFY. No charge.
BRB – Yeah, I know it’s really a Canadian city, but that doesn’t fit my narrative 🙂
In the movie, the city’s in Washington state.
wadn’t the town that pushed him. It was the local “authorities”. lets keep that straight.
JC – Granted.
The metaphor still works, though, because it’s “the guy in charge of Hope”.
