US Wants To Force Lower Speeds on Truck and Bus Drivers
Associated Press | Aug 26, 2016 4:55 PM EDT | Tom Krisher
“The U.S. is seeking to forcibly limit how fast trucks, buses and other large vehicles can travel on the nation’s highways. A new proposal Friday would impose a nationwide limit by electronically capping speeds with a device on newly made U.S. vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 pounds. Regulators are considering a cap of 60, 65 or 68 mph, though that could change. Whatever the speed limit, drivers would be physically prevented from exceeding it.”
MackCarthyism. Fastism.
Lawyers are salivating for the law of unintended consequences kicking in. “My client could not accelerate to avoid disaster, your Honor, because of the speed regulator on the bus. Incidentally, how much money does the U.S. government have, for the purpose of assessing damages?”
It’s a ploy to jack up union numbers. The smaller and slower long haul is the more trucks and union drivers you need.
The idea (intended consequence) is to increase expenses/ lower incomes to force more independent truckers out of business. Nothing a Democrat hates more than private businesses competing with their big business and union backers.
