I Say “Yes” to the First, “No” to the Second, and “Amen” to the Third

Walmart 9/11 soda display:

Some people were outraged; I thought it was sincere and respectful. It didn’t treat the worst September morning in our nation’s history as a mere sales gimmick. This was more akin to Budweiser’s 9/11 commercial.

These guys, however:

Look, I get it, and it was clever, and technically well-constructed from a humor standpoint, but there’s something red & raw about 9/11 for me that doesn’t allow me to appreciate jokes about it, so I didn’t like this one.

Finally, I like the NWSL’s approach to spoiled children kneeling during the National Anthem:

“We decided to play the anthem in our stadium ahead of schedule rather than subject our fans and friends to the disrespect we feel such an act would represent,” the National Women’s Soccer League team said in a statement. “We understand this may be seen as an extraordinary step, but believe it was the best option to avoid taking focus away from the game on such an important night for our franchise.

“To willingly allow anyone to hijack this tradition that means so much to millions of Americans and so many of our own fans for any cause would effectively be just as disrespectful as doing it ourselves.”

I hope the NFL takes notes. Maybe just cut to commercial instead of broadcasting that part of the pre-game so that the crybullies don’t get the attention they crave.
