I’m from Wisconsin, so accordion music seems less weird to me than it does to people raised in areas of the country that don’t have a significant German heritage in their population.

I grew up in NE Pennsylvania. This is perfectly normal. We had Sunday Polka music on the local TV stations. May I direct you to http://www.musicfest.org and the polka tent…
Glad I’m not the only normal one around here…
When I was a teenager that was my stepfather’s favorite radio program. I always HATED polka. Then I moved to CA and found out that Mariachi is polka with a Spanish accent. Accordions in heavy metal, OTOH, not so bad.
Grew up in So Cal but my grandparents were German immigrants, who were equally fond of opera, Beethoven and polka music. Dancing the polka is wicked fun.
have you heard of Alex Meixner….More heavy metal polka. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ceyvw3K8G6Q
It gets a bad rap from being in the Communist Manifesto (from each accordian to his abilities, to each accordian to his needs), but the Shmengies brought the instrument mainstream, and so did Weird Al.
Snoopy once got under Schroeder’s skin by playing “Polkas, Schottishes, and Waltzes” on his accordian.
Groaning while laughing….uggggg
I remember this, although I still have no idea what a schotttish is.
I have a lot of respect for accordion players, though. I can fathom the keyboard, but I have no idea how they figure out which of the 100 or so buttons to push on the other side.
As far as I’m concerned the only people who can make an accordion sound cool are the Cajuns…no one else even comes close
