Saturday Night Open Thread

A couple of weeks ago, we played something by the Beatles. Actually, it was “Something” by the Beatles. George’s love song to his wife (at the time).

Many of you mentioned he wasn’t the only one to write a song about her. George’s best friend wrote a song about her, too.

  1. Antonio Vivaldi, known as “Il Preto Rosso” (the red priest) because he was an ordained priest and had red hair, was born March 4, 1678, in Venice, Italy. Here’s his concerto for two trumpets. Notice how one trumpet picks up just as the other leaves off. This was written for the residents of a home for female orphans that Vivaldi ran. He believed that a girl or woman couldn’t sustain a line on a trumpet for very long, and that’s how he accommodated that belief.
