State (Iowa) sues company accused of dumping wind-turbine blades
Iowa Capital Dispatch | Sept. 26, 2024 | Clark Kauffman

The state of Iowa is suing a Washington-state company and its executives for allegedly dumping tons of old wind-turbine blades around Iowa, in violation of the state’s solid-waste laws.

The lawsuit alleges that over the past seven years, Global Fiberglass Solutions has failed to properly dispose of decommissioned wind-turbine blades and stockpiled them at multiple locations across Iowa.

The lawsuit, filed in Iowa District Court for Jasper County, seeks payment of civil penalties and a court injunction to prevent any additional violations of the state’s solid-waste laws.

Global Fiberglass Solutions and its CEO, Donald Lilly, are named as defendants in the case, as is Ronald Albrecht, one of Global’s corporate officers. The defendants could not be reached for comment.

From last year and Texas (but I repeat myself), here’s a story that’s behind a paywall, but the headline says it all:

General Electric Sues Texas Recycling Company Responsible for Sweetwater Wind Turbine Blade Dump The site in West Texas has been storing thousands of defunct turbine blades for years.

From Iowa, 2021…

State: Company illegally storing hundreds of old wind turbine blades at three Iowa sites

CBS ’60 Minutes’ airs two different answers from VP Harris to the same question
Fox News  | October 9, 2024 | Brian Flood, David Rutz

CBS aired two different answers to the same question in its “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, replacing a clip from the Democratic nominee that aired on “Face the Nation” Sunday when the interview package aired in a primetime special on Monday.

Harris was mocked by conservatives when footage of her offering a lengthy “word salad” that was aired by CBS on Sunday’s “Face the Nation” to promote the “60 Minutes” sit-down, when Bill Whitaker asked why it seemed like Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wasn’t listening to the United States. However, the vice president’s lengthy answer didn’t make the version that aired on Monday night on “60 Minutes” and a shorter, more focused answer to the same question was shown instead.

“Well Bill, the work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel that were very much prompted by, or a result of, many things, including our advocacy for what needs to happen in the region,” Harris responded in the “Face the Nation” version.

Sometimes interviews are edited to save time, but when CBS aired the interview on Monday night, Harris had a different answer to the exact same question.

“We are not going to stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end,” Harris said.

The Trump campaign called for CBS to release the full interview unedited on Tuesday.

Pedestrian possibly killed in crash that saw car being driven by DUI suspect plummet into Santa Ana River
CBS News | October 8, 2024 | Dean Fioresi

A pedestrian was killed when they were hit by a possibly drunk driver who drove their car off the road and into the Santa Ana River in Anaheim on Tuesday evening.

It happened at a little after 6:30 p.m. near E. Wagner Avenue and S. Rio Vista Street, according to the Anaheim Police Department.

Crews arrived at the scene to find a car that had landed in two feet of water in the Santa Ana River after veering off the road, police said. They’re investigating the driver as possibly being under the influence of an unknown suspect when the crash happened.

Both the driver and a passenger were able to exit the car under their own power, according to Anaheim Fire Department crews.

Video from the scene shows that the car drove through a fence that runs along a pedestrian walkway near the riverbed.

The video player is currently playing an ad.

While on scene, officers received information on a woman that was reported missing in the area. They say that her husband called to say that she had gone for a walk along the riverbed but had not returned home.

They discovered a body in some bushes at the scene, but are working to determine if it’s related to the crash.

Investigators believe that the car was traveling over 40 miles per hour when the crash occurred.

Y’know, maybe I’ll go into the police detective business. I’ve seen their magazine covers, and they’re hot. It doesn’t appear to be all that demanding or time-consuming a job, either.
