Puerto Rico’s new governor is considering seeking statehood as a remedy to his country’s financial crisis.
Plan B: physically sneaking the entire island across the border into a sanctuary city.

Same design with the edition of one star in the middle. Not the middle of the blue field but the whole flag. It’ll have to be about three times as large as the other stars. That’ll be the one for Texas.
Plan B: revert to the 48 star design and have a pennant attached with the stars for Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. No offense to Alaska.
No offence taken. However, I have a better suggestion, independence for Alaska and statehood for PR, and it’s a wash flag-wise…no change needed.
Why not just merge Puerto Rico with New York? That’s where they all usually end up anyway.
I say it’s past time for Puerto Rico to get off the dime anyway; they should have asked for statehood ages back.
On the other hand, being state requires them to be more independent, not less, than a territory; I hope to see.
(My only dog in this fight is an old Army buddy from PR, and I had a drill sergeant at Ft. Lee, come to think of it.)
THey have periodically had votes Independence; Statehood; Status Quo. Status Quo always wins because they keep the benefits coming, aren’t responsible for a real budget and remain US Citizens. I would say yes to statehood for them, but only if they adopt English as the official language. As far as runningout of Oklahoma, Texas could contribute some more conservative states can’t it?
Yes, the Treaty of Annexation allows Texas to split into up to 5 states.
No problem. They make a democrat state of Puerto Rico, we’ll create another reliable GOP state by dividing Oklahoma. DC statehood? Okay, we’ll split Oklahoma yet again. Oh no – here comes Guam! We’re running out of Oklahoma! South Carolina, you’re up.
Mr. Hammerstein has some rewriting to do….
♫ Nooooorthwest Oklahoma where the wind come sweeping down the plains ♫
How about they just get an asterisk, not a star, until we see how it goes?
With California talking of secession, you can leave the flag as is.
Let’s go the other direction and force them to be an independent nation. I don’t want 57 states!
The Deconstructed United States of America
There’s a few images if you Google the idea.
3 rows of 9 separated by 3 rows of 8.
There’s a round pattern (filled) that’s not too bad.
My idea is three intersecting circles of 17. Thou I haven’t tried to see how it would look.
the 3 of 9, 3 of 8 one is too rectangular. I like the blue field better when it’s squarish
Who counts the stars?
Make it 7X7 and I bet it’s a year before anybody notices.
So skip 51 and jump to 55 by adding in Canada. And I don’t really want PR as a state. Let them go. Liberty or death!
