The Jokes Stupid People Laugh At

Christopher Hitchens puts a nice little capper on the “Bush is dumb” jokes (language warning).

It always seemed to me that the people who honestly believe that one politician or another is really stupid are the dumbest people out there (e.g., Joy Behar). It makes sense, because they probably go through their lives with the desire to feel smarter than someone.

  1. Well, Bush was smart enough to know it’s better to take a fight to your enemy’s backyard. For that, he gets five stars. I’m just sorry he didn’t “decrease the surplus population” in places like Iran.

Bill Mayer is smart – he just has a cynical, fat head. Hitchen’s hand salute was appropriate, I think.

  2. I was flipping channels looking for a Girls Gone Wild infomercial the other morning when I ran across a woman on C-SPAN with the subtitle “Bush is Dumb”. OK, it actually said “Rediscovering Intellectualism in Politics” or some such blather. But her whole take was “Bush Dumb, Obama Smart”. Deciding that wasn’t Girls Gone Wild, I kept flipping.

You mean like Cher? Or maybe Sean Penn?

  4. Hehe. Sounds like Socrates landed on the Girls Gone Obama channel instead of the real deal. Well, as House said in one episode, “The pr0n is piling up on the Internet. It doesn’t download itself, you know!”

  6. I think Hitchens took a cue from the Ann Coutler playbook, and decided to mock the libtards for fun. Wooo Hooo!

Did I miss something? Was Maher making a Clinton/Lewinski reference with the “But sometimes a cigar is really a cigar” retort? Seems like a non sequiter to me.

Happy New Year! Don’t drink and drive.

  7. Absolutely. Absolutely. People who are constantly putting others down are those who need the artificial boost to their own egos.

And the more important the person is that they are putting down, the bigger the boost to their ego.
