Can We Repeal?

Doctor Zero has a good article on how we have to keep fighting for repeal of Obamacare. But can we repeal? It’s tempting to say no based on the history of entitlements, but you have to remember that America is basically a lake of black swans. Everything we do is new an unprecedented, and you can’t make a very exact analogue to anything else in history. What would be really unexpected is for things to go just as everyone expects.

So while I’m tempted to be in the “You can’t do it! It’s impossible!” crowd, I really don’t know and it’s certainly worth trying. Keep that in mind with who you support this November.

  1. Of course it can be repealed! If an incompetent lying silly commie douchebag can be elected President just because America is full babling idiots easily impressed by shiny things (like Michelle’s legs) anything can happen!

  2. The Obama crowd is hoping for at least an attempt at repeal.

“Look at the mean conservatives trying to take your health away!” will be the battle cry to rally the Marxist base.

It would be a good opportunity to scrap the garbage bill and replace it with real reform that will actually increase competition and lower costs like the self-correcting free market was meant to do automatically.

  3. It can be done, and must be done while simultaneously pushing for an alternative with tort reform as its centerpiece – the whole time informing and educating the public about the freedoms that have been lost by every American due to frivolous lawsuits, and the threat of frivolous lawsuits, and what the country will look like when everyone doesn’t have to live their lives worried about others suing them for things they never did, and how that will affect the price of everything, including health care.

  4. If November is a wipe out for democrats in both houses of congress, the new majority could add repeal to every bill. De-funding is also a possibility.

If I’m a black swan, how come democrats still say I’m a racist?

  5. Can we repeal? YES WE CAN!
Oppose Socialism at every turn? YES WE CAN!
Throw out Weenies like John McCain? YES WE CAN!
“We can’t drive our SUVs any more.” YES WE CAN!
“We can’t eat as much as we want.” YES WE CAN!
“We can’t keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times.” YES WE CAN!

Well, that was therapeutic. So let it be written, so let it be done.

  6. Repeal is certainly possible. We’ve done bigger things – women’s suffrage, ended slavery, and ended prohibition. These things took time and commitment. They had to become popular causes before they were achieved. I think we are well on the way, seeing as how the HCR bill started out in a popularity hole from day-one.

I also endorse Marco’s recommendation for the treatment recalcitrant republican politicians. Any one of them who isn’t for repeal must have something wrong with his or her brain. As with TVs, computers, and children, a good smack is often a fast and effective fix. You’ll be doing them a favor.

  7. Keep this in mind when you go to vote: Instead of your doctor (a profession that will devolve into something akin to a mechanic), a Cheetos munching, grape soda guzzling, lip smacking Letharja Coffeebreak will be making your healthcare decisions. Munch munch, smack smack: “Well ahm SORRY, but dass da LAW!”

  8. I’m for free market principles for fixing the health care mess, but I’m against the Repubs repealing Obama-lama-ding-dong’s HCR and “replacing” it with something “better”. It would be just as unconstitutional. Better to repeal it.

Tort reform would be good as a stand alone law, but include other kinds of tort besides Medical malpractice. I mean if you’re stupid enough to grab a hot cup of coffee and drop it in your lap, you deserve the pain, not the money.

Insurance across state lines, good idea. Repeal the legislation that makes it impossible to buy across state lines.

Insuring people with pre-existing conditions…that’s a hard one…It’s like buying car insurance AFTER you wreck your new car. You can’t expect an insurance company to insure you at the same rate as a healthy person. I commiserate with people who have a pre-existing health condition. I have one too and I’m uninsured because of it. But fair is fair. If I buy insurance, I expect to pay more because of it.

Does anyone see where I’m wrong?

  9. Yes we can get it repealed. This is the age of the internet, the political rules have changed. We elected Scott Brown in MA, for example. I have been a political junkie for decades. This one is really, really different. The democratic base is starting to waiver. There is a lot of uncertainty there.

  10. Can people with pre-existing conditions get health insurance for everything EXCEPT their pre-existing conditions?
I mean, if I have diabetes and and a broken leg, can I get a doctor to just fix my leg without charging me for testing my blood sugar?
