Nine Years Ago

  1. Taped the Simpsons episode “Homer vs. New York”, & watching it today. The Towers are featured prominently in a way that shows that they are both iconic and that their continued existence is unquestionable – just like the Empire State Building. It hurts a little to watch it.

  2. -We should not forget the first attempt at the twin towers that was largely dismissed as a pathetic/failed.

-We should not forget that everyone of their failed attempts seemed to followed by a seemingly out of nowhere follow up several years later that was on a much larger scale. Say what you will about Radical Islam they think and dream big and ramp up goals quickly.

-We should never forget that for all the pansied “religion of peace” talk by Bush and all the hypersensitive PC talk in America that the American response was successfully painted in international media and in foreign hearts as an aggressive overreaction. That leaves me two main thoughts, one all the PC stuff counted for about nothing second you will never win hearts that are being poisoned by a skilled and tenacious foreign media.

-Every time there is a Muslim attack that kills people you will always always always here the media talk about the supposed possible victim of a great backlash against Muslims instead of about the actual victims.

-We should not forget the other two carefully selected targets that day. The pentagon and the white house.

Their plan was never to kill most or a lot of Americans or to successfully begin an invasion. Their plan was carefully targeted that with only a few people they could decapitate/neuter the American government, military, and economy. Not enough to outright destroy it but enough to hobble it and send it into enough disarray that we would be too busy with our own problems to get involved in anything actions they took in the middle east.

  3. Never forget. I certainly won’t.

I fear too many have. How long did liberal “unity of purpose” last after 9/11. Was it a year? I expected them to bail. They’ve done it often, but I just cannot get my head around the intellectual dishonesty of it all.

Exit question: If perchance Muslims had proposed building a mosque near Ground Zero within a year after the 9/11 attacks, no one (save Michael Moore) would have supported such a callous move. What has happened since then? People have forgotten. They’ve forgotten what it was to live in a metro area for weeks with an eery quiet of no aircraft overhead and then being freaked out seeing aircraft again when the skies were reopened, and so on.

  4. We haven’t rebuilt those things yet. That infuriates me.

As I am a natural optimist, I will point something out. Yesterday, I went to a high school football and today I watched more young gentlemen play football. To me, this is proof that the terrorists failed. If America ever falls, it won’t be their doing, it will be ours. Live your lives to honor God and our men and women in uniform and make sure you did whatever you could to keep America free.

  5. “Their plan was never to kill most or a lot of Americans or to successfully begin an invasion.”

So why have we spent 9 years over there? Why didn’t we just bomb the hell out of them and come home. Same with Iraq. We don’t need to fix their damn country. We just needed to teach them a lesson. Don’t mess with the USA!

  6. “Why didn’t we just bomb the hell out of them and come home.”

That wouldn’t work. Russia killed over a million Afghans, and there was still enough poison there to send the 9/11 attack.

The only cure for the poison there is freedom. The natural enemy of radical islam is a free and informed people who are happy. The happiest places on earth have the fewest muslims, and the msot unhappy have the most.

Improving their lives may seem like an incredibly unfair reaction, but it’s not really. The poison there fight and we kill them, but many there were oppressed and many of our troops volunteer to mark their lives by improving the world and protecting America. I think the volunteer military changes the morality of this kind of effort.

But just consider the idea of a happy and free people. What’s the most dense population of radical islams in America? Detroit, of course. It’s big in Darfur, too. The reason we don’t carpet bomb Tehran and all that is that it would actually make things worse.

In fact, the bastards over there often WANT us to make things more miserable. What does Ahmedinijad say things that seem designed to cause someone to bomb his country? Because he wants Iran to be miserable. These bastards wanted us to bomb Saudi Arabia (not that I’d lose much sleep if we did.) Killing civilians means nothing to them. Killing them means very little to them. We’re fighting a strange sort of crazy that is cured with freedom.

  7. shiggz @ #3, You have an overactive imagination, and you’re irrational.

By saying that President Bush had a “pansied” and “politically correct” approach to coping with the events which occurred on 9/11, you are showing an ignorance that is stunning.

What did you want Bush to do, round up all of the Muslims in this country and throw them into internment camps like Roosevelt did with Japanese-Americans after 12/07/41?

Rational people agree that President Bush conducted himself appropriately. His calm, thoughtful and level-headed approach had a calming and reassuring effect on not just Americans, but on people around the world, too. Would you like to blame HIM for 9/11, too? Get a grip and get real. He did a pretty damned good job of protecting your sorry ass for eight year.

Unlike Obama who doesn’t have ANY managerial, executive or leadership skills, and who is an empty suit and a lazy, useless and decadent dilettante, Prsident George Bush was a dignified, diligent and damned fine leader, who had the admiration and respect of leaders of other countries all around the world, including this country’s enemies.
