The US Postal Service says it hopes to increase the volume of junk mail it delivers to shore up sagging revenues.
Giving people more of what they don’t want – sounds like a good Obama 2012 campaign slogan.

I am getting enough right now thanks
Email is cheaper, faster, more reliable and it has a folder to deal with ‘junk mail’.
With less paper mail the USPS could cut their service to three days a week and be profitable.
Were it not for the Mail Carrier and Buggy Whip Unions.
Don’t worry, next year they’ll start a program where you can pay them to not deliver all that junk mail to you.
“The postal service hasn’t relied directly on taxpayer dollars since the early 80′s.” By that logic, most of the federal government doesn’t rely on taxpayer dollars either — it just borrows the rest, including a chunk from the federal reserve which just prints the money in order to devalue the dollar.
Subsequently drives TONS of business to union trash collectors
You scratch my back…
I’ll agree to this if Congress passes legislation stating it’s not a crime to wave off postal carriers from the foot of your driveway with a super soaker primed with deer urine. Keep movin’, bub. Keep movin’.
First get rid of the postal carriers, then get rid of the “free weekly newspaper guy.”
Why don’t they just concentrate on actually delivering the mail without destroying it, and for a reasonable price, in order to encourage people to use their service more often? That’s what real companies would do.
SofB: They CAN’T deliver mail for a reasonable price. It’s not possible. Why? Because it’s a propped-up, long-dead industry. If it competed with the private sector without government involvement the Postal Service would’ve been forced to shutter its doors two decades ago. A real company would’ve divested itself of unprofitable business lines, closed unprofitable offices, reengineered its products, and streamlined its workforce. But as a quasi-government organ, it didn’t –it couldn’t– because it’s a bureaucracy, not a business. Ever see a post office close? It’s darn-near impossible to do because Congress won’t let them close!
Someone has to deliver the millions and millions of checks the the giant, United States Check Writing Machine!
The post office has been screwing the American public for over a century, why stop now?
I’d take my mailbox off the post if it weren’t for the fact that the darn power company will only accept Web bill paying through its own service, for which it charges a fee.
That finally explains it. My Post Office has the following sign:
“Priority Mail will be Available by 11:00 A.M.”
For years, the only things in my mailbox at that time of day consists of unsolicited ads and political notices. You have to wait at least two more hours to get Bills, Checks, Personal Mail and etc.
