Here’s the actual the picture on the card. Yeah, it really is a painting of a dog in snow wearing a scarf.
Because what could possibly be more Christmas-y than your dog dressed like a hipster douchebag?

From 1962, the Department of Defense’s short film “Red Nightmare“.

“Jack Webb (Dragnet) plays a Rod Serling-like role as he introduces us to Jerry Donovan – an average guy who shrugs off his inconvenient, civic responsibilities. Jerry “wakes up” in a communist-controlled town, where he’s the only American left. This film was produced for the Defense Department by studio mogul Jack L.Warner and stars many Warner Brothers stock actors – including Jack Kelly (Maverick), Robert Conrad (Wild Wild West) and Andrew Duggan.”
For my part, although I thought the acting was passable, the storyline of the script just left me baffled. Apparently the moral of the story is that if you don’t attend PTA meetings, you’ll be shot in the head by communists.
Nevertheless, worth a watch. Just don’t expect Twilight-Zone-level plot-coherence.
One thing that did occur to me, though… during the “nightmare” sequence, Jerry’s oldest daughter mutates into Sandra Fluke.
A younger, hotter Sandra Fluke, to be sure, but still just as willing to mouth the socially-acceptable “party line” of her peer-group while vociferously rejecting the morals and values of her parents (or at least her father).
As for the younger kids, it’s basically the 60’s version of having your kids come home and unplugging your computer because they were told at school that you’re “killing polar bears by using electricity.”

New on the White House’s stupid “petition” page is one to:
“secure funding and resources, and begin construction on a Death Star by 2016.
By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.”
They need 25,000 signatures by December 14th.
Still short about 7,000.

It’s the trailer for the new Superman movie!
After viewing it, my status is now “Hopeful.”
Now, Ace seemed to freak out about this trailer saying that comic book movies all need to aim at a specific light tone, but he is so wrong on this that he should now question all his political views since they come from the same brain.
Now, Superman should not be dark. He’s not Batman; he’s not into heroism because his parents were tragically murdered. But treating him as a real human seems like a good idea after that ponderous Bryan Singer Superman where he was like this demigod. And I agree with Allahpundit that if we’re talking about someone for truth, justice, and the American way, he should be a little grim these days.
Superman is actually pretty hard to do good stories for because he’s often portrayed as so nigh invulnerable, but it can still be done and my favorite characterization of him is when he’s made as sort of an opposite of Batman. For Batman, he is Batman and Bruce Wayne is just a mask he wears. But Superman is a mask that Clark Kent wears, because deep down Superman is this good guy from the midwest who fights evil not for vengeance, but out of optimism. Now, you can put some grit around it, but I hope there is still that optimism which the trailer does hint at (he seems to say he doesn’t fear how the world will react to him the way his father did).
So, maybe the movie will get this right, and Zod is the villain and he should do nicely. Still, I wish it had Lex Luthor in it… not necessarily as the villain but just around. I really want to see the lawful evil businessman portrayal of him on the big screen opposed the criminal buffoon that Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey portrayed him as.
One other reservation, I really like Amy Adams, but don’t you need someone tougher for Lois Lane? Lois Lane was about the only thing the Smallville series did perfectly.

Just wanted to let you know – today I received my 2013 Social Security Stimulus Package. It contained two tomato seeds, cornbread mix, two discount coupons to KFC, an “Obama Hope & Change” bumper sticker, a prayer rug, a machine to blow smoke up my ass and a “Blame it on Bush” poster for the front yard. The directions were in Spanish. Yours should arrive soon.
A Rasmussen survey had people rank their freedoms, with freedom of speech being more important and right to bear arms least important. Best of the Web characterized this to asking Moms to rank their children. Our freedoms are our God-given rights; it’s a package deal. You recognize all of them or they all get compromised.
But, as a practical matter, the right to bear arms is the most important. Because when you have a gun in hand, people much more readily recognize your other rights. How often do you hear, “Hey, you with the gun, shut up.”?
So Right to Work passed in Michigan, and here is Steven Crowder getting punched repeatedly over it:
It’s not really a wonder union members often get extremely angry and resort to violence. They’ve been convinced that the only reason they have a livelihood at all is because of the protections of unions, thus their whole sense of security is wrapped up in these corrupt organizations. In a way, it’s like a microcosm of government dependence: People who feel they can’t survive by themselves if not without the intervention of others — and then they don’t care how corrupt or incompetent those others are as long as they seem to have power.
Like many things in America, the solution is freedom. More specifically, people learning a real independence and feeling their livelihoods are in their own power and not held by others. We really need more self-esteem as a nation, and more responsibility.
And unions are just so backwards these days. How far can a company go when you have an adversarial relationship between workers and management. You want a whole company working towards its goals instead of one half trying to profit as much as it can off of the other.
Unions, you’re archaic and silly and cause people to be dependents, i.e., you’re against the American way. Time for you to go. And then maybe people won’t be so scared and violent.
Unions? I read about those in a history book.
Why are Democrats against the Right to Work law? Why do they hate rights?
I don’t get the protesting with tape over your mouth. It’s oxymoronic and makes me want to hit you.
I won’t actually hit you; I’m not in a union.
I don’t know about a Game Change 2; if you’re comparing this election to the previous, it seems more like an unnecessary and uninspired remake than a sequel.
As long as Democrats throw entertaining fits every time we shut down unions, we’re going to keep doing it.
Jay Carney described the Republican proposal to avoid the fiscal cliff as “magic beans and fairy dust”.
