The trick is to remember that “C” has six protons, whereas “CE” is a major third.

CE only deletes from memory the last number you entered. You retain earlier values. C will delete all values entered.

Never thought about how this works but my calculator has one button and it is labeled CE/C . I am now confused.

Before you press “=” it erases the last entry but afterwards it returns everything to zero.
